ACIII is now finished for the ending. On to AC:Rogue (given what I've seen online, I'm assuming the mechanics are going to be pretty dang similar (if not mostly identical?) to IV:Black Flag) Yeah, as much as the AC games from 1 to Revelations had sad stuff, nothing broke my heart like ACIII. I loved the interactions between Connor and Haytham so much in the game, especially when Connor got all angry about his mom's death. (" I'm all out of forgiveness!") Killing Hatham killed me, too. I kept shouting at my pc for Connor to find any other way to end the battle, but noooo, the game made me kill him anyway. Then I went back to the Homestead to hear some wise words from Achilles, only to find him dead, too! Yeah, Ubisoft, why don't you rip out my heart and stomp on it, too?!? Sure, go right ahead! Gosh, I think I actually had tears in my eyes at the funeral scene. Did you play The Tyranny of King Washington, btw? I thought that was a really fun dlc.

Achilles' death was the worst for me. The (dear sweet) Old Man on the Hill, and then when Connor finally felt like he could say the words he needed to say at Achilles gravesite? heartbreaking. I didn't mind Haytham's death all that much. I mean, I felt for Connor for feeling like it had to be done. But I was never a huge fan of Haytham. Have not played the DLC yet, still debating whether to download it or not.

Have not played the DLC yet, still debating whether to download it or not. Well, story-wise you wouldn't be missing anything, since it's pretty much entirely a what-if scenario. I thought the new power set was really fun, though, as it breaks the boundaries of what the series usually does in terms of realism. Plus, you get to meet a couple more revolutionary characters.

Breaking news: New future character leaked! lol... that's like the "Assassin Turkey" Easter Egg in III: That's amazing! I always wonder with this kind of random easter egg, if people actually find those, or if someone from the production team "leaked" it. Like, what are the chances that someone would figure that out by themselves?

Finished up AC: Rogue. I know the nature of this game was intended to make the Templar point of view somewhat palatable - and because of the way they did the storyline, yes Shay's point of view made sense (but darn it all if both sides had just sat down and talked about what happened in Lisbon so much could have been avoided!), but for me it still felt wrong. Was happy to get it out of the way (even though... as ever... I didn't get 100% sync on everything). Will probably start up AC: Unity this weekend.

*Finally* finished Unity this past weekend. Have now started in on Syndicate (thank goodness the Frye twins know how to whistle... that was one thing really bugging me about Arno). Obviously I won't finish Syndicate before Origins is released this week, but I'm okay with that. If nothing else, by the time I'm ready to actually play Origins, there'll probably already be updates to fix any of the initial bugs or glitches that I'm sure there'll be Origins Launch Trailer

And apparently it's just as well that I'm not anxious to begin playing Origins right away/day of release (aka *today*)... email from Ubisoft indicating my order of Origins is delayed (which apparently quite a few people have had problems with). They claim I'll get it Monday instead (+ they said I'd get sent (shipping separately) a limited edition assassin's creed lithograph for the 'inconvenience'). Since I have Syndicate to keep me busy, I'm not complaining.

Well, as I'm currently very short on time, I'm still stuck halfway through my third AC III playthrough. But I'm already looking forward to Liberation and AC IV, which I bought recently on sale. Either way, it's gonna be a looooong time until I get to Origins, but that's just fine with me.

Finished up Syndicate. I admit, I pretty much played exclusively as Evie in the 'free roam' portion(s) of the game (as well as obviously the missions that were Evie specific) and only played as Jacob when the game forced me to for his character specific missions. Jacob as a character was just... kind of annoying. Not to mention, we've had 11 "main series" games now and out of those just 1 1/2 have a playable female assassin (Liberation with Aveline as the full game and then I count Syndicate as only a 1/2 since you're forced to share playtime with Jacob for at least half the missions - not to mention, it seems like for most of the memory sequences, Jacob tended to be the one to get the final assassination of the sequence). Blah. Let us play as women assassin's more Ubisoft! *rant over.........for now at least* Anywho, I have started up on Origins. I finished up the opening (essentially "training") region of Siwa, as well as one of the subsequent regions on my way to Alexandria (Lake Mareotis). I've just entered Alexandria and have started things there. The look of the game is gorgeous, I'm loving Bayek (and Senu). Not sure how I feel about some of the gameplay changes though. I kind of miss the button map/help being on the screen as well as the circular compass/map. The horizontal compass along the top edge is kind of 'eh'. The changes to how combat/fighting works is also kind of eh to me at the moment. For example, I keep forgetting/have a hard time remembering to pressing down on my R-stick to lock onto an enemy and usually just end up wildly swinging with my RT/Heavy attack. The skills system looks like it's pretty similar to what was in Unity and Syndicate. The weapons system-- gosh there's a lot of weapons that you can acquire. It looks like (for me at least) I'll probably hang onto 1 or 2 items in each category/sub-category that I really like and just keep those upgraded and then either sell (so that I can afford upgrading weapons) or dismantle (to get crafting materials for other upgrades) the rest - especially considering that the only way you get money in this game is by selling items, looting (treasure, supply crates/bags, and corpses), or some of the side quests (particularly if you're helping out someone whose wealthy - such as playing bodyguard for a day for a rich man's daughter). No business enterprise or anything for Bayek to get some extra cash in this game. Just some FYI for those that haven't played it yet: You don't start out with the hidden blade but, I think you can get it relatively early. If you want it as soon as possible after you finish Siwa then (Spoiler tags just in case) As soon as you've done the main assassination (taking out Medunamun) in Siwa and the Quest to go to Alexandria and seek out Aya appears as an option in your quest menu, track that quest and go directly there (if you track that quest, then you can put your camel/horse on 'auto pilot' and should take you straight there). The Quest menu indicates it's for Level 10, but I think you should be able to do it before you hit that. (I admit I don't know for certain because by doing pretty much everything in Lake Mareotis myself before taking on that quest, I'm already a Lvl 12 as I'm entering Alexandria). Once you enter the library and truly start the 'quest' there's not any combat or anything to find her. Just be sure on the road to Alexandria you avoid enemies in the regions you cross as some will be at least lvl 10 enemies).
Once you find her, she'll give you the hidden blade - no cutting off of the finger, at least not yet (I believe it does happen at some point because there's model renderings and gameplay/trailer footage of Bayek where he's missing the finger on his hidden blade hand). Once you have that, then you can probably back track (i.e. to Lake Mareotis) if you like to level up more before actually tackling all that Alexandria has

And I just got to the part where Bayek loses the finger... Killing The Snake in Alexandria. Ouch and brutal. I initially thought it would be something Bayek thought of himself - maybe even later in the game, that if it meant helping his quest for revenge, taking out the finger so you could use the blade with a closed fist would be worth it. But no...instead it happens in the heat of battle with The Snake holding Bayek's fist closed in the fight and with the proximity to The Snake's face, Bayek going ahead and unleashing the blade - taking off his own finger in a bloody mess.

Finished Liberation recently and am doing a second playthrough right now, just for the hell of it. Small, but very fun game! Plus, it made me want to write again, which I haven't felt like for the longest time, so that's awesome, too. Actually had a small "what the hell?" moment, when I went to look for fanfiction after finishing the game. Was looking for some Aveline/Gérald shipping stuff, only to realise that about 95% of the few existing Liberation stories ship Aveline with Conner! Don't get me wrong, he's awesome and she's awesome, but there was zero chemistry between them and personality wise I just don't see how that would ever work. In fact, the people behind ACIII even agree with me here, as apparently there had been thoughts to include Aveline as Connor's love interest in The Tyranny of King Washington, that were ultimately discarded, because the two are just too different regarding their motives and personalities. Well, yeah, no kidding! Plus, the relationship between Aveline and Gérald is just too adorable, even though I will concede that he's not exactly the most exiting AC character out there. "Strictly business, of course." "Of course. But not too strict, I hope."
