Well, this got long and I don't have the time to edit it down, so deal with it...
We finally get Hale's background, which spills the beans on most of the questions, and has some important exposition mixed in...
Coulson: Add it all up, just doesn't feel like a Air Force operation.
Hale: It's not. It's Hydra.
Coulson: I thought we stomped you out.
Hale: Yes. Just as you were stomped out, and yet here we are in the same room. I'd like to tell you my story, then I think you'll know it's time.
Coulson: Time for what?
Hale: It's time for SHIELD and Hydra to finally unite.
Hydra and SHIELD unite? IT'S A TRAP! (Just trying to tie in that General Ackbar thing from last week...)
I have to say, Hale looked a lot better 28 years ago. She hasn't aged well. (Okay, that was an unnecessary remark...)
A young Sitwell? With hair? BWAhahahaha... WHITEHALL? VON STRUCKER? Does it seem the writers are stretching things a bit here? They're trying a bit too hard, methinks...
And what's with Hydra and killing dogs? I need to add that to my list of why Hydra sucks...
So Hale was forced to give birth to Ruby. Could it have been a virgin birth? Hmmm... Sitwell was right. You don't punch the future leader of Hydra in the face. And I guess Whitehall was right, she was the only one with the qualifications for the job. And Hale's "Hail Hydra" to Whitehall sounded like an eff-you to me...
Two years ago.
So they're tying everything back to the tech from New York. And it could have been Whitehall who contacted the Confederacy using Hale's idea from 26 years before. Something else to blame Hale for.
LOL, Talbot. Fischer kills himself and Talbot says, "How could you let this happen?", like they could have stopped him...
(About killing Ruby's dog.)
Ruby: Wake up. Me obeying you? That is weakness. You, with your blind faith! With this stupid tradition. That's weakness.
Steger(?): No, it is a right of passage to a life built on control and survival! That's why when you cut off the head two more spring up...(gets shot)
Hale: And now we're the last two.
Just like the Sith...
Talbot is alive! "My stomach is so hungry, it's about to digest itself." Capt. Crunch, lol. "I still outrank you."
Talbot (looking at alien device): I don't know what the hell this is, I don't think she knows what the hell this is, but what the hell is this thing?
I don't know what it is, but it looks like they started with a small block Chevy...
Hale: I learned my predecessors hadn't just made contact, they struck a deal. For protection.
Talbot: From what?
Hale: The war coming to Earth. It's only a matter of time before it reaches us.
Could she be talking about Thanos? The movie and Agents of SHIELD are eclipsing in a few weeks...
And it's very good to know that Talbot knows it wasn't Daisy that shot him. But it turns out that Talbot is the one that told Hale where to find the Gravitonium? Does that mean Talbot found Ian Quinn and got the Gravitonium from him? Or did Hydra have more someplace?
Talbot: Shield is coming through that door any day now. You just wait and see. Phil Coulson is coming for me.
Sorry Glenn. The team is 78 years from now.
What's with everyone ending up in the lunchroom with Ruby showing up?
Coulson: Is this supposed to keep me off balance or something? Having me stumble out to some Econolodge continental breakfast? I'd give this ploy a C minus. (Looks at table.) Hey, wait a minute!
Oops! All Berries! Okay, C plus.
You know, not all men have an obsession with breakfast cereal. Just because Talbot, Coulson and I do, doesn't mean we all do. And it's unrealistic not hearing Coulson crunch as he eats. Has anyone seen The Blue Men Group? They take Captain Crunch to a new level...
And Badass Coulson is the only one who didn't follow Ruby out of the lunchroom...
Hale: Why don't you let me show you what I'm working on.
Coulson (suddenly in front of the alien device): Bad idea.
Hale: You don't even know what it does.
Coulson: I don't need to. It's got that weird alien writing on the side.
A teleportation device? Uh huh. At this point, Coulson's life experience must be greater than anyone else's on Earth. Cool SFX prior to the teleport, not so much for the teleport itself. But that might just be me...
Alien (Qovas?): Why have you brought this human, uninvited?
Hale: This is Phil Coulson. He considers himself humanity's shield, one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Coulson: Her words, not mine.
If that ship shows up in the movie...
Coulson: We will not go quietly into the night bit. What's your plan?
Hale: You're familiar with Dr. Whitehall?
Coulson: I buried him. (Hale looks at Coulson. Coulson fist pumps.) Go team!
(and later)
Hale (about Daisy): She would be worth of Whitehall's code name for the project, "Destroyer of Worlds". Obviously the guy was overcompensating for something, but...
I laughed out loud at both of those...
Now...
May: Remember combat training. Take what you have, use it to your advantage.
Daisy: We have nothing.
May: We have a super villain.
Way to go May! Using Evil Fitz! "Not asking you to apologize about it, I'm asking you to embrace it." Excellent!
It was good to see Mack defending Fitz. I guess we'll also see if Yo-Yo gets super strength.
Daisy: You're Hydra.
Fitz: Well, that's an advantage. I saluted the same flag as those people.
Daisy: But we don't turn on our own here.
Fitz: Do you want me to recount all the times you did?
Ooooo... This could get ugly...
NO! DAISY! DON'T GET ROBIN! The last thing you want to do is follow Robin's future...
And the epilogue.
Jemma: The other tool belongs to Deke. Who got it from his grandfather.
Fitz: He's my... our... grandson. BUT HE'S THE WORST! (emphasis mine.
)
Jemma: I think he's perfect. Plus, his very existence proves that you and I make it to the Lighthouse and live long enough to raise a daughter. Do you see what this means?
Fitz: Yeah, I do, it means our daughter is obviously going to marry some belligerent space goon, and she's GOING TO GIVE BIRTH TO A DEKE? (emphasis mine, again.
)
Jemma: No Fitz, it means you and I are invincible.
Fitz's reaction was EXCELLENT! But some very bad conclusions, Jemma. First, just because his grandfather gave him the Leatherman, doesn't mean that grandMOTHER was around. We already know Robin predicts Jemma's death. We know Jemma tells her kid the phrase, but she could have been told that at an early age. Second, she should know that if the team is successful in changing history, the Lighthouse loses importance, and their lives aren't guaranteed, which is the whole mission of the team right now. Well, one of the missions of the team.
So. WAG's.
Yo-Yo saying they have to let Coulson die, really means, not save Coulson from Hale?
Is one of the reasons the alien place is so dark that you can't see the alien is blue?
Will Deke be the proof the team has been to the future and stop Hale?
Things are still falling into place for Earth's destruction. And I'm not sure I like the idea of Hale being a good guy...
