Do you read? Do you write? Do you think it's weird and a waste of time? Experiences, thoughts, recommendations, etc. go here. My pen name over on FFN and AO3 is Mondhase, so if anyone ever want to have a chat about writing, check out my stuff, exchange beta services or whatever, you'll know where to find me!

I used to read quite a bit of fan fiction back in my high school days (back then it was *NSYNC fanfiction). Don't read it as much anymore though (aside from short little 'ficlets' or responses to prompts that might come across my tumblr dashboard). I have too many books in my 'to read' pile for me to really get back into fanfiction.
As for writing? I have written some... though I've only ever written it just for me, never put it online nor do I plan to (usually did crossovers between some of my favorite movies/shows/and-or books)

I occasionally read fan fiction, but don't write my own. There are some excellent writers out there, and I've liked reading for shows that were cancelled.

I do both, but I have never and will never, ever put any on fanfiction.net. It's is almost as bad as imdb in terms of lack of moderation and abundance of trolls.

I keep hearing that on occasion and I never fail to be baffled. I've been posting on FFN for over a decade, and I've never had problems with trolls or anything. Maybe it's just with the bigger fandoms, I don't know.

When I started I had a lot of ideas, but quickly all my muse was gone. Still reading some from time to time. I have some ideas for AoS, but I am unable to put it together to make a story out of it.

My problem is alway finishing my long-running stories. I have way too many still going and haven updated in over a year due to both, loss of my muse and too much stress in real life. I guess my decreased excitement about AoS in general ever since S3 might also have quite a bit to do with it. But recently I really feel like writing again, so I'm hopeful I'll soon pick it up again!

Do you read? Do you write? Do you think it's weird and a waste of time? Experiences, thoughts, recommendations, etc. go here. I read fanfiction. I write fanfiction. My problem is that I'm not that big of a 'slash' fan, unless the 'slash' happens to be a couple that is canon. I personally like 'filling in the blanks' fics, especially those that depict scenes that we know had to have happened, yet didn't get to see on screen. One of my favorite AoS fics was one where we saw the time between May and Skye saving Coulson and then Coulson telling them to get back to work and having his talk with Skye in 'Magical Place'. When I write Fanfiction, I go to great lengths to stay write within the established canon of a show, especially for AoS. I don't know why I do this, maybe it's just because those are the stories that I want to read.

Surprisingly (sarcasm) you can find me on Fanfiction.net as caseyrook. It's sarcasm because I'm pretty much that name everywhere I'm on the internet (besides Twitter and Facebook of course.)

I just went to FFN for the first time, and started reading your story about Coulson and the bagels. Had to stop for a moment after 2 chapters to come here and brag on you! I think you are doing a great job of capturing the essence of the character, and the story is very engaging as well. I love the fact that you stick to canon, this is like reading a synopsis of an episode I missed. What a win-win deal! I now know where I will be spending a lot more time. Between you and ayanami, I should have plenty to read over there. Thanks so much for letting us know about this

I'm not familiar with any of the 'trade-lingo' of the genre, any more than I knew what 'OP', 'trolls', 'sock accounts', etc. were, before I started hanging out on the IMDb boards several months ago.

I'm not familiar with any of the 'trade-lingo' of the genre, any more than I knew what 'OP', 'trolls', 'sock accounts', etc. were, before I started hanging out on the IMDb boards several months ago. Well, originally "slash" simply stands for the "/" used between character names when indicating the main pairing of a story. For AoS there are still tons of "Skye/Ward" stories for example, as well as "Fitz/Simmons" or "Coulson/May" ones. Both Fanfiction.net and Archive Of Our Own (AO3), as well as I think pretty much any other fanfiction site allows authors to tag their stories accordingly, as well as lets people search for these pairings. Any "slash story" will focus mainly on the romantic relationship between the main characters, often even include sexual aspects. For some reasons that probably go all the way back to the sixties with Kirk and Spock or Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin on The Man from U.N.C.L.E., many people use the word "slash" specifically for stories involving male on male pairings. Not necessarily, though. One other term that I don't know if you're familiar with, but should be if you're delving into anything fandom related, is "shipping". It comes from "ship", short for "relationship", and basically means rooting for a romantic relationship between two characters in some form. It doesn't have to mean writing stories about them, but that can obviously be one way of expressing that hope. There are usually "ship"-names for the more popular pairings, which are usually just the character names fused together, such as Sky(e)ward, Fitzsimmons or Huntingbird in case of AoS. Note that both shipping and slash stories are not restricted to canon couples! (Like caseyrook AKA Mechelle said.) For AoS you'll also find stories shipping Skye/Hunter, Skye/Coulson, Simmons/Bakshi (Yes, really! Mainly before she murdered him, though. ), Simmons/Bobbi, Fitz/Hunter, as well as probably countless others. For those there's the rule: "Don't like, don't read!"

ah, ok, ayanami Good explanation. I was as in the dark as I was about what 'shipping' meant I finally figured that one out on my own, from IMDb conversations. [EDIT: although I had no idea the term came from an abbreviation of 'relationship'. I was still scratching my head on that one]
And, with this post, I now have to ponder what 'specialty' I want to choose!
