I'm happy to see that, but a little surprised. From what I've seen, she didn't seem very interested in returning. Of course, I'm sure timing had a lot to do with it.

Looks like they're going to follow the comics like they did with Falcon taking over for Cap. Seems like she's going to take over as Thor. Linkety link.I'm glad to see she's rejoining the franchise. I suppose it shouldn't be as much of a surprise, as she was willing to come back and do voice work for Endgame.

I don't like the Jane as Thor storyline. Ugh. I'd rather see Darcy (or whatever her friend's name was) as the female Thor. She was a much better character. Jane was plain and boring. But, as long as real Thor is still around (in the Gotg movies or wherever), I won't complain too much lol.

I'm interested in the Black Widow movie, I enjoyed the Wonder Woman movie (yes, I do know that's DC), and I'd love a Scarlet Witch movie. What doesn't interest me is taking an established male character and just turning him female.

Not to mention that in this instance it's pretty silly to begin with, as Thor is his given name, not a title or a superhero alter ego. So why would Jane with super powers be called "Thor"?? I'm kinda baffled, though, that they're actually going that route in the movies. Going by what I've picked up on the net, that storyline in the comics seemed to have received very little love from the fans as a whole, combined with a noticable drop in sales. But then again, it's the MCU. They've been able to turn lots of questionable stories into cool movies, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I don't think this is a "an established character being turned female". Sure, that can be why ideas come up in meetings and all (who knows?).
But I trust them to build a great story around this. Thor is already questioning who he is and running around with Stormbreaker etc. So finding some situation where Jane gets into trouble (every film so far) and ends up actually wielding Mjolnir and/or having Thor's powers is not hard to imagine.
And Portman's no slouch - she's not doing this if it's not going to be well done.

To be fair, I doubt that movie could have been saved with the script as awful as it was.

Hax said she wouldn't do a movie if it isn't going to be well done, yet she did all three of the prequels. Her part really wasn't bad it Ep I, but what I really should have linked was her final scene with Anakin in Ep III.

But I'd argue she was less established then (especially when she signed what I assume was a 3 movie deal before anyone knew the Star Wars franchise wasn't bulletproof after all). So while there's no guarantees, I would expect that if nothing else her Padme experience made her wary of just signing on for something without good reason to believe it's going to be well done.

Well, though I actually really like them (thanks to Loki ), I have to admit that the first two Thor movies were not exactly the shining stars of the MCU. Yet she did sign on for those... But, I guess one main reason why Marvel got Natalie to re-join the franchise was precisely the fact that they're doing the female Thor storyline. She probably wouldn't have wanted to be the damsel in distress once again, but to be a super heroine in her own right (sort of, I guess), sure, why not?

I agree the Thor movies are near the bottom of the "best MCU films" but they're still better than most non-MCU comic book movies IMO. I also didn't really see her as a complete DID but yeah, a more "the girl saves herself in this one" film likely appealed to her. I just like her as an actress and in the interviews I've seen. Plus when she hosted SNL she was part of one of the best skits ever. So I'm openly biased. Anyway, I expect this next Thor film to be very good. And they'll figure out a good way to justify why she gets Thor's powers and why (or if) she actually takes the name Thor or whatever.
