It is confirmed that Gabriel Luna will reprise his role on a Hulu-produced new Ghost Rider series! Woooooooot!!!! That's awesome! And how cool is it that this announcement comes right as we're going through the Ghost Rider arc in our re-watch sessions?! Although I do have to wonder a bit about this part: Like, for real? Is there really any chance of this character, Ghost Rider, who was previously on Agents of Shield, and is now being played by the same actor as he was on Agents of Shield, NOT being associated with said version??? Either way, I guess the fact that Ghost Rider is heading to Hulu and not Disney+ gives further credit to the speculation that Hulu might be the new home for any +18 Disney and Marvel content in the future. Potentially even Daredevil et al once any contractual waiting period for the usage of these characters is over.

Nah, don't get wrapped up in the Deadline hyperbole..it is written to produce just such responses as yours... OF COURSE it is the same character, after all, it is a MARVEL/Hulu production. If I'm wrong, I'll eat my Don King Chia Pet.

According to Hulu's press release, Luna will play the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider, but the show will take place on the Texas-Mexico border rather than in Los Angeles or whatever dimension he has been in lately. Variety is reporting that, "sources stress that this will be a completely new iteration of the character in no way connected to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. storyline." The impression that I am getting is that the showrunners will be free to skip anything about the character that was introduced in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. For example, they could drop his brother or have Eli Morrow play a different role in Reyes's life. Also, we should probably not hold our breaths waiting for an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. character making a crossover appearance. Theoretically, this would also allow Luna to return to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. without being bound by anything that happens on his show. On the other hand, if this is a complete reboot, I do not see why they would keep the same actor.

Nonetheless, it might be promising, as I literally live on the Texas/Mexico border. If they get reality wrong about whats happening down here ( promise, I'll start a separate political-only thread if that is the case, and bear the wrath of Jemma Simmons 's new hammer I just gave her). I am extra curious now to see what other's perception are of the border, who do not live here. I reiterate, it is happening in my back yard. And my family's houses are getting broken into. THAT IS REALITY on the border...

Well, while I have no problem with the character moving on from his time on Agents of Shield, having them completely ignore - or worse, openly contradict - what has been established about him so far, would be an epic slap in the face to Marvel's "It's all connected" tag line. I seriously hope they won't do that.

I hope it's Robbie Reyes. That character was made to be a main character of a TV series. This could be to Agents of SHIELD what Angel was to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

THAT IS REALITY on the border... I would prefer we avoid politics at all, as it’s especially divisive now and we have such a diverse group. I don’t want anyone to feel unwelcome.

I’m really curious to see where they take this idea. I am concerned that it sounds like they want to just ignore the SHIELD stuff, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. I’m really excited to see this character get a series!

They'd be insane to contradict AoS. A few small things being ignored or whatever would be fine but all they'd accomplish with contradictions would be fan outrage. They should realize their audience has a high percentage of perfectionists.
If they want to do something unique they'd at least have to do something story-wise to explain it. Some demon resurrects someone who died or whatever.

According to the Wikipedia article on Robbie Reyes, in the comics, he was a high school student with a a developmentally disabled brother rather than a dropout with a paralyzed brother. In the comics, Eli Morrow is the demon possessing him instead of being a disgruntled PhD. In the comics, Reyes had the ability to teleport to wherever his car was, and his car's trunk was a portal that could teleport anything anywhere. If he had these powers in the show, we did not see them. I suppose that if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. can be this loose with what the comics established with the character, the new show can be as loose with what Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. established with the character. The weird part is that casting the same actor in what appears to be a reboot. This is almost as if Disney cast Andrew Garfield (or Tobey Maguire) to star in Spider-Man: Homecoming. If this is to be a full reboot, a new actor would have made sense. Regarding politics, there are two boards where I sometimes lurk and sometimes post (with nearly 200 posts on each). The other one used to be almost as friendly as this board is now but turned nasty about three to four years ago when politcal discussions became more common. It only recently started returning to a more friendly atmosphere when the person with the second highest post total was suspended for a few months for trolling. I would prefer that things not get that ugly here.
