Huh. Lots of sources reporting this, so it must be true. Here's my WAG's! Maybe ABC is figuring out the small and dedicated fanbase is larger than they thought. I wonder if the acquisition of Fox has expanded ABC's horizons. Like SWORD, or the import of some other actual Marvel characters. There is also the possibility that the Marvel content that's being developed for the new Disney streaming network has deemed ABC continue the series, or use it as a vehicle to the new content. There's no reason crossovers couldn't happen, since it all happens in the Mouse's house. Then too, there really hasn't been much said about about anything after A4, probably because any big announcements would be a spoiler. Maybe Feige will finally admit Coulson is alive and SHIELD is in the MCU. It would be difficult to do, but maybe that's why the long break between S5 and S6, to be able to sit down and plan a timeline between the MTU and the MCU. If you think about an AoS season (or arc) the same way you would an individual superhero movie (it will have it's own storyline, but contributes something to the overall goal of the next "phase"), it wouldn't be that hard to do. (At least compared to coordinating the first 20 films, anyway.)
I mean, the events in Chicago was sure to have drawn someone's attention. And it's hard to ignore the Inhuman problem in the MCU. It would be a good time to resolve all of this.

Well, that’s something if S6 hasn’t even aired yet!

Well, that’s something if S6 hasn’t even aired yet! My friends at Level7Access made a good point: this came the same day that Channel Dungey has stepped down as head of ABC. Was it her last act on the job?

Thanks for the heads-up Mechelle. I spent the day devoid of any social media, so this was a nice surprise. I find it interesting that..... FINALLY..... after 5 aired seasons, AOS VFX team wins an award (see below) from within the industry, the next day S7 is announced. Needless to say, I'm a happy camper.

Was it her last act on the job? I was thinking maybe the converse...maybe the new head immediately gave it the green light. Either way, its great news. Gonna be another 13 episode season. I wonder how the new condensed format will work out.

I'm guessing it will feel a bit similar (though a bit longer) to the pods used earlier. Instead of having multiple pods in the season, likely just one or two. Kind of like how Netflix is approaching it now.

Kind of like how Netflix is approaching it now. Seems to be that the demand ratings for AoS are very good that has something to do with it. And that they want to save it for their own streaming service. But its clear that Channel Dungey wasn't a fan of Marvel. And her stepping up might have helped. But there are enough arguments of her have wantiong it to give another season. Anyway, unexpected but damn good news.

I remember back in the day when Dawn Ostroff (lovingly nicknamed "Demon O" ) was in charge of the programm for The CW and Supernatural was constantly on the verge of cancellation, because she wanted to gear the network more towards the Gossip Girl-teen drama viewership. Luckily she stepped down in 2011, or I doubt that the entire Arrowverse would have ever been possible. It's crazy what a difference one person can make!

In the very late 60s, the very new Head of CBS decided to axe almost *all* of their shows, including the very highly rated "Hogan's Heroes", so they could take the network in a completely new direction. He ended shows that are still loved and watched today. That has gone down as something that A LOT of people still talk about today. It was a move that went down in history.
