Episode 5.11 discussion thread (spoilers!)

I was on the road while the episode was running, but have now watched.  I also managed to capture the chat when I got home.  Unfortunately the board isn't allowing me to post it right now.

Well, the Deke at the bar sequence could have gotten the point across in 1/3 of the time.  Last time I saw Zima on the screen was one of the Austin Powers movies.
Ok, why is Yo-yo fighting in real time?  
And I guess we have Zima and Xena in the same episode.  Can't see calling that thing by any other name than a chakram.

(Camera slowly pans around to show the entire team.)
Coulson: "This is what Voss warned me about. If he's right, then this is where it all all starts. Hell on Earth."
Mack: "Aaaannnnd we're back."
(Insert opening title, break for commercial.)

YEP, THEEEEEEYYYYYY'RE BACK! That shot was fantastic.


After a four week hiatus and some 73 years, we get an episode where things start pretty normal, then gets weirder as time goes on. It's amazing how much they packed into this ep.


The Ruby/Hale thing starts interesting, then turns absolutely weird. Who are they? Anyone see any similarities to TRON? I mean, I've seen kids get grounded, but not locked into a vault...

And so the Lighthouse is a SHIELD antique. So now we know who built it and why, but not why it's off the books. General Stoner (lol, is he the virtual Koenig?), and Project Reclamation. And secure e-mail, lol again...

May and Fitz walks into room, and three monoliths are revealed.
Fitz: "Oh. That's quite unsettling."
Quite an understatment there, Leo...

And Noah is the new Enoch, but snobbier. (Prissier?) Fitz and May completing his sentences was hilarious.

Fitz: What are you observing now?
Noah: Various potential threats. You'd be surprised how frequently SHIELD is mentioned.
May: We have a small but active fan base.
(She's talking about us! )
Noah: There are several events of note. A well known political figure attempting to delete his FBI files, an Asguardian spotted in the city.
(A Thor reference? Seems appropriate.)

The Team's reaction to being outside was priceless. Not as good as Deke's, but a nice touch.

And probably one of the best exchanges of the night:
(In Volkswagen van)
May: Eh, it could be worse.
Jemma: True, we could be enslaved by an alien sociopath in a dystopian future.
Mack: Or we could be trapped inside a virtual reality fascist state.
Fitz: Or sunk to the bottom of the ocean.
Yo-Yo: Or stopping a crazy robot lady.
Jemma: Or falling out of a plane.
Mack: Fighting Daisy's Mom.
Coulson: Or fighting Daisy's Dad.
May: Or dancing.
HAhahahaha....

DEKE! Interesting that he survived. He spends the entire first half of the season calling Daisy an idiot, and one of the first things he does is hit a bar with no concept of currency? I suppose if I were in his shoes, I'd be blown away as well...

Does anyone else think Ruby/Hale activated Hive's beacon to entrap the Team, and is actually the reason the Kree show up? Oh well, another reason Hale must die. And her kid, too. Didn't take me long before I decided the kid's gotta go.

And Piper is a... I probably shouldn't use the word I was thinking about here. Nothing like the Team being betrayed...again.

Yo-Yo's arms. Not done by Kasius? Is she using prosthesis in the 2022 vision? Either way, it sucks. Yet another reason Ruby/Hale must die. For a second, I thought Mack was going to die here. Yo-Yo saying, "It's all coming true", doesn't make for very happy.

I really hope the explosion of the beacon didn't release any of the monoliths. Was Noah around just long enough for some exposition and killed off?

And Creel is back. Hale is "Putting together a team." Hell, everyone is putting a team together these days! Who else will be on the team? Quinn?

Overall, a decent episode. No downtime between arcs, and they moved the story along at a pretty rapid pace. There could have been less Deke in the bar, but I think it served it's purpose. And what was with the Zima? Was it a connected joke to another property, or just product placement? (I understand it's an alcopop, but I've never had one.)

And no, even with the preview, I am not going to look at any spoilers about the 100th episode.

Coulson's dying(?) and looks close to being benched
May will probably want to nursemaid and comfort him
Elena lost her arms
Mack won't want to leave her side
Daisy's afraid to get involved
Deke's a goofy tourist
Piper's a disappointment (dammit!)

So, it looks like it's up to Fitzsimmons to save the world.  **Science Twins Powers...ACTIVATE** 

I wouldn't really consider what Piper did to be 'betraying' the team. She thought they were *dead* so they would never show up, and then it was kind of a shock for her when they did.

I mean she chose to stick with them and not stay with the AF.

Although, thinking about: it's almost directly her fault that YoYo lost her arms.

That could be a "thing".

Seems like it could be a great tie-in between the era of Agent Carter and that of Director Fury. I could see Project Reclamation being something that Peggy Carter and Howard Stark started, and buried the info before Fury took over.

Also, since it was 1972, and they were using such 'advanced' technology as email,  I think it would be hilarious if they had General Stoner's image start glitching (a prelude to glitches like Max Headroom had in the early 80's)

Also, he said 'if you are here, [at the lighthouse], you understand the gravity of the situation.'
Little doubt that this is a tie-in to gravitonium.

Warburton will always be Kronk to me.
