On the 'Captains' thread, Nillindeiel said it would be harder to pick a first officer so I decided to go ahead and make a First Officer poll.
For me, William T. (the Red not the Yellow) Riker blows all the others straight out of the non-existing water.
Funnily enough, Spock and T'Pol are fighting a battle with logic over who takes second. (It's funny because Vulcans are my least liked species).

I love Spock, and it was hard to not go with him, but Riker gets my vote. The episode where he served as First Officer on a Klingon ship was classic.

As I said, this is a tough one, but when I mentioned that earlier, I actually thought of Trip as the second in command on Enterprise, not T'Pol. Riker vs. Trip, that would be almost impossible to decide; River vs. T'Pol, not so much. Even though DS9 is my favourite show, Keira is not one of my favourite characters. So she's out, too. Leaves Riker vs. Spock. Damn, that's a bitch to decide. But, as I've seen far more of TNG than TOS, I'm gonna go with Riker again.

Spock was great because he was Spock. Riker was great because he was on the best show (IMO).
Spock wins, hands down.

I only listed T'Pol because she has the official title of First Officer. Trip did hks fair share of First Officering, in all honesty. He was the Second Officer (what Data was).

Spock has the disadvantage of having also been the science officer. Riker was able to step in while Picard was absent and stay in the chair. Whenever anything strange happened with Kirk gone, Spock was trying to run the ship while he was bent over looking into the science station viewer. Casey: How about engineers next? All engineers would be better than just chief engineers.

Spock was by far the most complex character and as was once said the most human.

I do not know DS9 and Voyager well enough to include all their engineers, chief or not, in a poll of that sort in all honesty.
