Don't you wish these guys could find a way to enjoy their jobs........
Just speculation, but I have to wonder if Deke being in the picture could mean Daisy's capture is a ruse - that it was pre-planned where she purposely goes in as a prisoner while Deke gains the confidence of Kasius by helping to capture her. Now Daisy has already hidden her lightsaber in R2D2...oops, wrong show... I don't think Skye was in on it, but I thoroughly believe that Deke had good intentions by selling her out to Kasius. He's helping her in the long run, he just has a sh**ty way of going about it.

It’s probably better she doesn’t know so can’t give Deke away. I’m guessing he realizes she’s not only powerful, but resourceful and will figure something out.

Not that it actually matters... It will take another 3 1/2 months for Coulson's team to figure out the message from the signal. Finally got to watch the episode monday night...that was a long 3 day wait! I'll have to re-watch it, but from what I remember Deke mentioned the 'long game' to Daisy earlier in the episode, and when he said it again to her when she got captured, it was as good as a 'stage wink' as far as communicating to Daisy he was still on her side. As far as your 'spoiler' tag comment, Hari Seldon, there could be a sideways grain of truth to that. Let's not forget that the Superior's head is still in a jar somewhere, and he had intimate knowledge of the Framework. That's actually the first thing that popped into my head when the Framework got mentioned in the s5 premiere. Who knows...

Well, when Daisy proclaimed the death sentence on Deke, I don't think she was bluffing... I personally think it's sort of in between what you guys are saying. Nothing pre-planned between the two, but I think Deke is actually trying to protect Daisy in a way. i.e. he knew she'd get caught so he basically helped it happen in a way that prevents her getting killed immediately and sets it up so he can help her escape. Or maybe he's truly acting for his own interests but will eventually see the light and help our heroes.

Am I the only one to think that Sinara is being controlled against her will by Kasius, and she will end up turning on him and helping the team? Or at least sacrifice herself to the good cause?

Actually, my impression is that she'll consider him weak at some point and kill him and try to take over....... So, since we're almost at extremes of each other, it'll probably be neither and land somewhere in the middle.

Just for whose benefit, is the question. There certainly seems to be some underlying tension between the two, that has not been addressed as of yet.

I did not have a chance to comment on the first two episodes before the third episode aired, so I am commenting on all three.
This show has a problem of having interesting events take place off camera before a season starts and either simply tell us about what happened (e.g., the bulk of the first episode of the fourth season), pointedly not tell us about what happened (e.g., the circumstances that led SImmons to infiltrate Hydra), or tell us multiple variations of what happened (e.g., why Coulson was no longer Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.). The one problem is that television is a visual medium. It should show us what happened, not tell us what happened. I was afraid that the show would do the same this season. I am very glad that the show learned from its mistakes and had the fifth season take place immediately after the fourth season, thus showing us what happened to the characters.
Some of you are wondering how May was able to fly the Trawler so easily. It appears to be designed to be flown by humans, so it is possible that the controls were based on controls for human aircraft.
Why does everyone in the Lighthouse speak English with American accents? Were only Americans spared, or are there separate areas for people from other nations? For example, is there another wing of the facility containing Portuguese-speaking Brazilians?
This is the third season that opened with Fitz and Simmons separated. In the first two, Fitz was largely nonfunctional as an agent (albeit with extenuating circumstances). Will this pattern repeat? If not, could it be The Doctor's influence?
Would it be a wacky theory to suggest that Fitz was one of the elders, or the elder, who founded the S.H.I.E.L.D. cult that Virgil was obsessed with? If this is an alternate reality, which Fitz was the elder? Also, I have a strong suspicion that Fitz planted a gizmo necessary for the team to save the day in plain sight, perhaps in Virgil's quarters.
How much do the Kree know about the S.H.I.E.L.D. cult? Did the Kree merely view the cult as troublesome subversives, or do the Kree know the details on what the cult believed? Now that Kasius knows about Daisy, will he link her with the other five and start a search? He will not have to look far for one of them.
A bit of trivia: I have been looking at the amount of dialogue that characters have in each episode. Through the second episode (I have not looked at episode 3 yet), there are now more episodes in which Deke has the most dialogue than there are episodes in which either Ward, May, Hunter, or Morse have the most dialogue.
I initially pegged Deke as being a Han Solo type character: an in it for himself rogue on the surface with a well-hidden conscience. It now looks like he is more Lando Calrissian. I agree that he is actually on the team's side. Most likely, he sold Daisy knowing that she would be brought in proximity to Simmons.
Grill claimed to be impressed with the team's ability to steal a scroll. Was this a ruse? He seems to have nothing better for people with that skill set than to sort rocks, and he was willing to sacrifice them.
It is unlikely that the show will remain in this setting permanently. As the Lighthouse is being portrayed as being hell, some of its denizens may want to accompany the team when the team leaves. This means that it should be a high priority to be on the good side of the team. Grill, in particular, is not playing this smart.
I agree with many who believe that Simmons has been acting unusually stupidly this season. Her impulse to help the wounded servitor was noble, but she has to control her impulses if she is ever to be let out of the lab. This was worsened when she mentioned "advanced procedures" to Kasius and twice confronted him with a "What's wrong with you!" In Hydra and on Maveth, Simmons found herself in an unfamiliar setting. Both times, she was able to adapt to new surroundings very quickly. Either Kasius believes in keeping one's enemies close and is setting Simmons up for a trap, with her as either the target or the bait, or he is as pathetic as Bakshi.
However, she was not much better in the Framework. She actually believed that a S.H.I.E.L.D. ID would get her past a checkpoint when she already knew that Hydra defeated S.H.I.E.L.D. in that reality. When she confronted Coulson for the first time, she should have realized that he either genuinely did not recognize her (and may be part of the Hydra system) or at least that he was signaling her to shut up. However, she proceeded to call far too much attention to herself.
In the fourth season, Daisy noted that Simmons had been kidnapped three times, but only twice on earth. Simmons ended up sleeping with the non-earth captor that Daisy referred to, and her current captor seems to be attracted to her. I am very sick of love triangles, so I hope that I am just being paranoid. On the other hand, in this reality, Fitz would either have been killed in the anti-S.H.I.E.L.D. cult purge or he would likely have died a natural death by now, so would it be cheating? At the moment, it does not look like a Simmons-Kasius relationship would be consensual on her end. Maybe the show will make Kasius a Harvey Weinstein proxy. I am going through a bout of insomnia and am up past my normal bedtime, so I am getting these weird thoughts.
There appears to be some discussion on the tension between Kasius and Sinara. I suspect that Sinara sees Kasius as being attracted to Simmons and that Sinara is either jealous of Simmons (if Sinara is involved with or at least attracted to Kasius), or she believes Kasius is losing his head over a pretty face. If this comes to a major conflict, I see Kasius as being the more likely to side with the team, or at least siding with Simmons. However, a conflict would not necessarily mean that either party sides with the team or with Simmons.
Finally, I miss Fitz. I am guessing that his absence is due to the film that Iain De Caestecker was working on. If this is the case, I can forgive if the film turns out to be good, especially if it brings well-deserved attention to De Caestecker. I will not take it well if it ends up getting something like a 32% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The one problem is that television is a visual medium. It should show us what happened, not tell us what happened. B: It has definitely been their style to keep time passing story-wise in the off season, yet whether it is a problem or not is a matter of opinion. If they took the time to actually show us what happened, it would mean lots of flashbacks, and for me that gets old quickly.I was afraid that the show would do the same this season. I am very glad that the show learned from its mistakes and had the fifth season take place immediately after the fourth season, thus showing us what happened to the characters. B: I was curious when I heard that this season would not have a time lapse during the break. Now we know how they got around that...by using time travel as a major plot device. Some of you are wondering how May was able to fly the Trawler so easily. It appears to be designed to be flown by humans, so it is possible that the controls were based on controls for human aircraft. B: Agreed. It also helps explain caseyrook AKA Mechelle's comments about the Lighthouse starting as an underground shelter-how could it be a space station? Actually, the program has never told us that it was a space station. Even Mack commented that the HVAC piping appeared to be re-purposed, and Daisy said the computers were also, providing coordinates in latitude and longitude. I was not at all surprised to see Kasius's lair/The Lighthouse located under the crust of the remaining Earth chunks. It also helps explain that they did not travel through distance, only time. They are still 'on' Earth. In fact, Jemma said something that I thought was really dumb when she and May took the Trawler out. Paraphrased, "I recognize some of these constellations. We must be in the same galaxy." Well, DUH, all the stars that make up our constellations are in the same galaxy, and only appear in their seeming shape from our point of view. She should have immediately known that they had not traveled anywhere. And yes, she later realized that she recognized all of them, but she is smarty type, she should have snapped immediately. Why does everyone in the Lighthouse speak English with American accents? Were only Americans spared, or are there separate areas for people from other nations? For example, is there another wing of the facility containing Portuguese-speaking Brazilians? B: I for one appreciate it. I am sooo tired of shows trying to be PC/SJW correct and having a bunch of foreign accents that you can't understand, and that from all accounts by native speakers, are terribly done. This is the third season that opened with Fitz and Simmons separated. In the first two, Fitz was largely nonfunctional as an agent (albeit with extenuating circumstances). Will this pattern repeat? If not, could it be The Doctor's influence? I am seriously wanting this segment/pod to be done with in no more than 5 episodes or so. They have been really good about this in the past, not sticking on anything too terribly long. And I hope they have as good a payoff as they managed in season 4, with the major departure that started that season. So far, this season concerns me= it has too much resemblance to the Inhumans fiasco of a show. I hope like hell they didn't tie into that too deeply, thinking it would be a hit.I agree with many who believe that Simmons has been acting unusually stupidly this season. I totally agree with you about her not wising up when Coulson did not recognize her, though. In the fourth season, Daisy noted that Simmons had been kidnapped three times, but only twice on earth. I am going through a bout of insomnia and am up past my normal bedtime, so I am getting these weird thoughts. B: It is definitely paranoia on your end. There is absolutely no way, no how, that Simmons is attracted to Kasius in any way, shape, or form. She is being controlled. I HIGHLY doubt there will be any sexual relationship between them. It would truly be rape.

With Deke it would explain how he got the framework tech. Would be funny. I find Deke's arc mysterious on many levels. Most people have a hard time living, but he has his own tech, he has historical knowledge, he has his own spacesuite and massive amounts of freedom. He knows Virgil, who was a contact person for the Elders. I wouldn't be surprised that the Elders also gave him a mission and that that is his long term game plan. Though, that said, he wasn't aware about the plan to get Shield members rom the past to save humanity. Many questions about this. If the Elders gave the order to retrieve this Shield team and with Fitz being an Elder, knowing the future and knowing his own past, could explain why he hasn't put himself on the list. Fitz could be alive. I thought it was ninety years in the future, but it was ninety years agon when the Lighthouse was build. It is unlikely that the show will remain in this setting permanently. As the Lighthouse is being portrayed as being hell, some of its denizens may want to accompany the team when the team leaves. This means that it should be a high priority to be on the good side of the team. Grill, in particular, is not playing this smart. B: Gawd, I hope not. Enoch, the alien from the very first scene this season, will be back in the Fitz ep. and all the episodes after that. In the Fitz ep. a General will show up (who was there when RoboDaisy shot Talbot). In ep. 11 this General will show up again. Thus that most likely will be on normal earth again. Maybe in between eps as well (eps 6-10), but I think chances are that it will be in the future timeframe. Considering that the radio message was coming from the earth surface and likely the Elders are there as well, I think that the those episodes will be played at their place. And that the Lighthouse arcline will come to and end in the next ep. I have a strong feeling that next episode will be a game-changer and that it will end with something about Fitz. Then we get to see his side and the next arcline starts. This was just an arcline to get it all started.

If Kasius ends up siding with the team though, that would be a major league shocker for me.I also caught that recognizing constellations meant that they were not merely in the Milky Way but that they were in the Solar System as well. Simmons should have realized that. With all the other not-so-bright things that Simmons said or did, this one slipped my mind. Regarding Simmons and Kasius, I hope that you are right that she will not develop any attraction toward him. Disney, at least, believes that a woman falling in love with her captor is "a tale as old as time." I have not looked it up but I believe that Disney's most recent Beauty and the Beast may have crossed the one bajillion dollar mark in worldwide ticket sales. I doubt that Disney is pushing a Beauty and the Beast storyline, but the writers may have seen the ticket sales and concluded that this would be popular. Also, the writers love to torture Fitz and Simmons. A love triangle is a cliché way for writers to torture a couple. This is why I am sick of love triangles. So far, Simmons has shown no attraction to Kasius, and I hope she never does so. The writers may look at current events and portray a powerful man who feels entitled to exploit subordinate women sexually (and perhaps subordinate men as well). I do not think that the show will go as dark as having him literally rape her. At most, there would be a metaphorical rape. For example, one can make a case that Lorelei raped Ward in "Yes Men" and that AIDA/Madame Hydra raped Fitz in the Framework, although both cases were science-fictions situations that do not exist in the real world. The story may also conclude with her giving him an empowering (for her) kick in the gonads. I am not saying that Kasius will side with the team. I am just saying that he is more likely to do so than Sinara is. If he does, it would be part of a third potential outcome of the storyline in which he feels love more than lust for Simmons because she awakens a long-hidden compassion inside him.

I like this idea as well. I also toy with the idea that Virgil or Deke is a (grand) child of Fitz. Coulson speculated that there was 1980s Stark technology. If the bunker were created then, the team would be in the 2070s. This would mean that Fitz, if he were still alive, would be in his 80s or early 90s (the show uses Elizabeth Henstridge's real birth date, September 11, 1987 as Simmons's birthday, and a deleted scene from "Seeds" said that Fitz was a few weeks older than Simmons). I think I also saw an interview suggesting that the team is 80 years in the future, which would make Fitz almost 110 years old if he were still alive. He would most likely be a grandfather or a great grandfather of the new characters. I have been thinking that one of the new characters might be a descendent of an alternate member of the team, but not necessarily Fitz. I have not seen anyone here shipping Daisy with Deke, but I have seen comments to that effect elsewhere. What if the show starts that direction only for them to find that Deke is the (great) grandson of Daisy? If Fitz is the (great) grandfather of Deke or Virgil (or another character), several questions will be raised. Is it alternate-universe Fitz or our Fitz? Who is the (great) grandmother? How will Simmons take it if she finds out that Fitz is the ancestor, particularly if she does not realize that it may be an alternate version of Fitz? If it is alternate-universe Fitz, the (great) grandmother could end up being alternate-universe Simmons. If it is our Fitz, things could get very complicated and/or messy.

What if Deke is instead the great-grandchild of Hunter & Bobbi? I hope he isn't related to Daisy or Fitz.
Is it just me or does the makeup style of Kasius look similar (in application style) to Lorne from Angel? Both shows are Whedon shows, so it's possible it could be the same makeup artist/team, right? Too bad Kasius isn't as nice as Lorne though.
