They're still saying it'll be cat 3 when it hits land, and with localized rainfall up to 35 inches. If it stalls by the coast like they say it will, it's gonna get real ugly. I went though Galveston in the early 90's, just to see what a barrier island looks like, and there were these big patches of grass all over like this: I can only imagine there were buildings on 'em at one time. But it really is right across the street from the Gulf, so those storm surges are of full force right here. If you're in the way, and can get out of the way, you probably should...

Yeah, my thoughts and prayers continue to be with Texas. I have two cousins (one on my mom's side and one on my dad's side) that live near Houston with their families. So far neither of them have been given a mandatory evacuation, but they've had flooding in their streets and flooding up their lawns. Neither of them have gotten water inside their houses so far (though both sets of families have packed critical/non-replaceable items (such as photos, scrapbooks, important documents, etc...) into plastic tubs and have also moved everything they can up to the second floor of their houses just in case.
I continue to watch the news (and their facebook feeds) anxiously
