It'll be the last one for a while. I've got a friend in Tennessee that'll be in totality, but I don't know if I'll be able to get there... greatamericaneclipse.com

My house is in the path of totality. All I need is good weather. I'm in SC, BTW.

nope. Will be doing the same thing I'd be doing any Monday at that time... sitting at my desk at work staring at a computer screen *sigh* (I need to take some time off, can't really do it any time soon though)

I live in an area that will be directly in the totality.
I have to tell you, EVERY BUSINESS in the city and almost everyone in the state is going nuts and planning HUGE events around this eclipse.
My work sells eclipse glasses and we're nearly out.
My boss said if I end up having to work she won't care if I go outside for it.
In fact, school starts that week and they've reorganized the whole schedule for Monday around the Eclipse because my school and work (which are right next to eachother) are having a joint viewing event complete with vendors, games, and live music.

Well, get every camera you have that can take video and point 'em out the window. Take one of those eclipse glasses, put it over the lens of a vidcam and see what it looks like. If it looks okay, record the event... I'd have to drive 8 hours to get to the line. Is the 8 hour drive (16 hours total) worth it for 2.5 minutes of totality? Well, yes, but I still don't know if I'll be able to make it...

Well, yes, but I still don't know if I'll be able to make it... It's worth the drive. I've seen one total eclipse. That was in 1970. Daddy piled the family into a 1959 Plymouth and drove us from our home in the foothils down to the coastal area so we could see it. We were on the road all day. That brief period of totality was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I'll drive to Texas in 2024 to see another one if I can.
I plan to refrain from trying to take pictures. There will be a whole lot of other people taking pictures who are better at it than I would be. I'll enjoy their work.
One thing to consider is Sperling's 8 second law. www.everythingintheuniverse.com/blog/sperlings-8-second-law-all-total-solar-eclipses-last-8-seconds

We have planned to visit my sister in Kansas, for about 6 months now. Totality passes within 40 miles of her house, and there are plenty of rural roads, to get to it. Now my entire family has fizzled out on the idea. I am bummed, to say the least. Oh well, if I am still around in 2024, the next one will pass right overhead, without having to leave the driveway. Here's hoping.

Not quite in the path of totality, but pretty close! Hopefully the weather will be cooperative and I'll get to check it out! I've already got some eclipse glasses ordered!

This eclipse thing is already becoming insane. ... just why? (In regards to the picture.) The sun's going dark for like two minutes, so aside from having special eclipse glasses and not looking at the sun with the naked eye, I don't see what other preparations should be needed. "Buy food and water in advance." What, are they expecting the apocalypse?

No, like every school (college or otherwise), library, city government, hotel, theme park, *gas station*, public organization, and even entire *subdivisions*, are planning weekend long events centered around the eclipse so we're expecting madness in traffic. Me and my mom played around on the internet and you can't find an available hotel room in even the worse parts of St. Louis City (and that's saying something!)
