A very brief introduction for everyone who has never played (or maybe even heard about) Mass Effect. It's a sci-fi video game set a couple hundred years into the future. In the original trilogy the player takes control of Commander Shepard, an elite soldier, who must solve the mystery and later even face the head-on invasion of an advanced alien race called "the Reapers". ( Ah, yes, "Reapers".) What makes the Reapers so lethal and horrifying in direct combat is, that they use the dead of their enemies to create reaper husk to increase their own forces. In the game, there are several different enemy types created that way, depending on the original species, but here only the human reaper husks are relevant. Because I couldn't help but notice the extremely similar design of the protomolecule monster on The Expanse. For comparison: The Expanse: A brief scene from Mass Effect 1: And finally, the launch trailer of Mass Effect 3, for some nice cinematic shots of the reaper army: Heck, for me it looks as if the entire reaper forces are the result of a few protomolecule experiments gone wrong!
