background: I have seen Avengers, AoU, along with AoS and Carter. I'm not worried so much now about seeing the other stuff in any particular order, I'm just wondering which ones are the best. [edit: I mean, I would watch any particular franchise in order, just not concerned about seeing an earlier set of movies vs. a later one]
1. For sure I am going to get Winter Soldier. Its very pertinent to what I know already, and it seems to have the most positive feedback from everyone.
2. I am leaning toward Iron Man, also, since I am guessing it jigsaws well with Agent Carter and the Avengers. Also, RDJr' Stark character is growing on me, thanks to insight gained from you all during our live-watch of Avengers.
3. If I were to pick 3 to buy, I am lost between Civil War (haven't seen that much very good said about it), Iron Man 2, (haven't seen comments one way or the other), and Maybe Thor?? I don't think Hulk would interest me that much.
I'm just wondering which ones you all like the best, strictly in terms of movie quality and entertainment value. And by no means limit your suggestions to those I mentioned.

Well, I was gonna say "The Winter Soldier", but you already got that covered. IM is not a bad choice, either, and neither is Thor, if only for Loki's character, who is sooo different than in The Avengers. Other than that, and probably my actual second suggestion after TWS is: IIIIIIIIIIIII'm...... hooked on a feeling! THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

I would start with Iron Man because it's what really started the MCU. It was a good enough movie that I was caught up in it while watching it in the middle of the night while chaperoning a lock-in. I did not grow up a Marvel fan and it was good enough to convince me to watch the rest of these movies. Thor gives you a different take on Coulson so you might enjoy that. I agree with ayanami about GOTG. I had never heard of them and went in with rather low expectations and loved every minute of it (except for one thing that I can't say until you see it). Frankly, I also really enjoyed Antman.

I agree with everything polgara said, for the same reasons. GotG and Antman win the prize for humor. I do highly recommend Civil War. Plants a lot of seeds for the future and the performances of Spiderman and Black Panther are SO good you almost forget that Hulk and Thor aren't in it. I like them all so, personally, (no offense), I think your nuts for not wanting to see them all (except IM3, it's not mandatory). For an AoS fan that loves Coulson, IM, IM2 and Avengers are "must watch"

Thanks, all! This is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for. ayanami and polgara's comments about Coulson and Loki in Thor make it sound interesting. To be honest, Loki was probably my least favorite character in the Avengers, and I didn't even know that Coulson appeared in the Thor movie. It will be interesting to learn more. And DoTheMath, its not a matter of not wanting to see them! HA! its not an unlimited gift card, though! And all of you have recommended GotG, yet I have never even heard of this movie, except for on this board...now I am curious...same with Ant Man. I know that Spiderman has gotten rave reviews on a broad base, yet much like Hulk, neither movie has piqued my interest very much, they seem targeted to a much younger audience. DON'T beat me up for that! I am just saying that is how the advertising affected me. I'm sure I'll get around to all of them, at some point. Right now its a matter of which ones I want to own, rather than just catch online..I need to see which ones are available on Amazon prime now for streaming, since I have a free trial waiting.

I was funnin about the all of them thing. As for Spiderman, the previous movies are not MCU. They don't totally suck, but they're not MCU. Civil War IS MCU and the Spidey in that movie is, therefore, of course, MCU. The same Spidey that will be in the next Spidey Movie that comes out in July this year (will also be MCU). And, no... Spidey is not made for teens; however he is a teenager so........ Peter Parker is a teen, Spidey is a Super Hero that battles some really incredible non-teen villains. Spidey stories have a great dark side to 'em but also have great humor. And Black Panther is just simply awesome. A great, somewhat different, character. The BP movie is one I'm (currently) most looking forward to along with Thor: Ragnarok. I'll also add this: Infinity Wars is coming. If you watch a few more of these movies, you'll probably get hooked and want to eventually see them all before Infinity Wars (except for IM3, you can overlook that one). If you don't watch all of them, then I'd recommend you try to see all the movies featuring Infinity Stones: Space Stone (Tesseract) featured in CA TFA and Avengers Reality Stone - (Aether) featured in Thor TDW (but you should watch Thor before Thor TDW) Power Stone - (Orb) featured in GotG Mind Stone - (Loki's Scepter) featured in Avengers and Avengers AoU Time Stone - (Necklace) featured in Dr. Strange There's only one stone reveal left before Infinity Wars and it's expected we'll see that later this year....... So: To see where it all started, see IM For pure enjoyment, see Antman and GotG To fully understand Infinity Wars before it comes out, see the above list. Of course, that's on an "if you can" basis...... :-)

Right on! Thanks The whole 'is it or is it not' MCU is a bit confusing for those of us not in the know. This is the best explanation I have seen.

There are movies out there featuring Marvel Comics characters that are not MCU, such as: Fantastic Four Spiderman (Toby McQuire) Spiderman (Andrew Garfield) X-Men for a list of MCU movies: marvel.com/movies/allThe above link has all MCU movies, past/present/future, through Pase III. Again, a quick review: Coulson Appearances:IM, Thor, IM2, Avengers AoS connections:Avengers, IM3, Thor TDW, CA TWS, Avengers AOU Infinity Stones movies:CA TFA, Avengers, Thor TDW, GotG, Avengers AoU, Doctor Strange (last stone expected later this year....) For pure enjoyment:GotG and Antman
