I realize I may be taking my life into my own hands by posting this... but surely we can handle this topic, right? Just please be civil (or I will not hesitate to ask Jemma to lock/delete the thread). Surely there are some of us that, even if we may prefer Marvel, still enjoy DC content and at least *hope* that WB might get their act together and make a decent connected universe. Anywho... I'll start off: I actually enjoyed Man of Steel pretty well, I actually really like Henry Cavill as Superman and I thought that was good casting. Sure, there were a few parts here and there in the film that kind of had me 'eh'... but overall an enjoyable experience. BvS: Oh BvS... I wanted so badly to like it when I heard they were making it, but I just really did not care for the finished product (not even the Ultimate/Director's Cut). I just couldn't care about any of the characters. Suicide Squad: I still haven't seen.... I actually own it (I'm a completion-ist, what can I say).... but just haven't gotten around to actually watching it. Going forward, after the fiasco of BvS I'm not holding my breath on any of the future films, but I am cautiously looking forward to some of the upcoming films (I'm keeping my expectations low on them, however). I'm looking forward to Wonder Woman, I want it to be good (again, not holding my breath though). And I'm actually intrigued by Aquaman.... I mean....I'm not saying that it's mainly because of Jason Momoa......... ....oh who am I kidding, it's totally because of Jason Momoa (I mean, hello?!?) IMO, they just really need to get Snyder away from the DCEU or cut back on what he's allowed to do in it, I really feel like he's the main problem. Also, I know they sit there and tout that the DCEU is "director driven" not studio driven (though with both BvS and Suicide Squad having been talked about getting chopped to bits by the studio, how true is that really?)... but they do need someone to steer the ship (a Kevin Feige) to help keep things feeling cohesive. It is possible to do that and still let directors inject their own style into the films (Marvel does it, Guardians of the Galaxy was very much a James Gunn film, the Avengers films very much Joss Whedon films, Taika Waititi has stated that he was given a lot of creative freedom on Thor: Ragnarok (see the Indie Wire article I linked to over in the "Send a Raven" thread in the Marvel discussion forum). I hope the DCEU can sort it out. Anywho.... consider this a place to discuss the DCEU and talk about your hopes or your issues with it. Again.... please be civil to others that might have a different opinion than yours.

I'm totally cool with DC being discussed. Looking at our present crew, I doubt that.... ummmm..... Sorry. I was distracted by Jason Momoa. Carry on! 😄

I totally believe that Marvel fans and DC fans can coexist. I'm a fan of both; and like many others have said: Why can't people just appreciate that we're getting all these great CB characters on the big and small screen? Sure we all have our druthers, but we're living in an exciting time and it's not worth the fighting (take it from a guy that's been around over 5 decades)......... So, like the lady said, everybody please play nice and let's enjoy our discussions. Thank you. I'm in the same boat with you. I actually liked it a lot. Now, mind you, I'm not a source material purest..... but I think it was the best depiction of Supes, yet. Fell asleep watching it. Don't know if it was me or the movie; I'll find out when I get around to watching it again..... Me either, but it's on my list. I'm optimistic. I think WW is going to be great, JL will be better than BvS (and may actually be good or better), I'm hearing some positive rumblings concerning the next BatMan solo movie and I absolutely cannot wait for the next Supes solo effort. As for JL: WW will be awesome, Aquaman (wipe your drool, ladies ) is going to be a complete badass. FYI: the last time I saw Aquaman it was Raj on TBBT; and it wasn't a pretty site . Initially, it was weird seeing a different Flash in the previews but I'm already used to him and I think he'll do a good job of bringing a bit of levity (not sold on his suit yet, though). That leaves, Cyborg, a character I'm not familiar with. In the previews it looks like he'll be an interesting fit to the team. I'm looking forward to this movie in a big way.

looks like I was the only one enjoying BvS. I have to admit the movie wasn't stellar. But it was fun.

I'm going to create a DCEU sub-board and see if I can move this whole thread there. I figured it'll make it easier to navigate.

i would be very happy to see this thread have more prominence, i.e. not a sub thread but on par with the marvel one, so that we can have sub threads about specific dc films. the only reason i prefer the mcu at the moment is because (with the odd exception (iron man 2 and thor 2)) the films have been of a consistently high standard. imo warner brothers need to hire directors who enjoyed the comics and the characters and respect the source material. it is very clear to me that snyder does not get superman at all, nor does he have the skill to tease out nuanced performances from his actors or work to their strengths. cavill is not the most versatile actor but he has charm, warmth and presence, and could with the right director be an excellent clark kent. superman is clark kent in a bright outfit; if you get that right, then you have your superman. i'm still waiting for a decent superman film after christopher reeve's first two efforts.
bvs - some jaw-droppingly beautiful cinematography but it was just an incoherent mess. suicide squad - there was potential there but it was dragged down by a rubbish plot and script. ironically, if WB had just made a live action version of escape from arkham they would have had a critical and commercial hit on their hands. mos - after 2 hours i was still waiting for superman to turn up, as opposed to the emo we were lumbered with.

I think it is very hard to come close Christopher Reeve. The superman you are looking for will be there, but it will be within the justice league frame. Personally I very much like batman/Superman team up. But as brothers and not enemies. In that framework superman can be very much as the superman from the old movies.

Watched it again. Didn't fall asleep this time; must've been me and not the movie. It wasn't necessarily great, but it was/is good. A lot to like and, unfortunately, not to like as well (for me anyway). I thought the actors' performances were quite good, VFX were good and the action scenes were fun to watch; I but didn't necessarily like the story. Still optimistic about JL and WW; I think they're going to be well worth the watch. That's my two cents.

Ironically I just realized I'm "user 52" in this forum - which would be cooler if I were a bigger "new 52" fan. Anywho... MoS was decent and enjoyable enough for me. BvS was wrought with trying to jam too much stuff in it I think. Affleck was good but I could have done without the dystopian future stuff etc. Less would have been more overall. SS - fun enough to watch but man the animated version (Batman: Escape from Arkham - typically on Netflix) is so much better. Again, less is more. Just have this crew on some black ops mission rather than the over-the-top Ghostbusters bit. Maybe cut the team down a bit to the core characters that everyone wants to see and then have them going after some big bad that they can't touch officially. I'm really looking forward to Wonder Woman as it at least looks like they're basically doing a WWI film but with Wonder Woman included. Though I've been avoiding spoilers so maybe it's already common knowledge that they're wedging in a bunch of other powered characters etc. In general I think the DCEU is trending in the right direction. I haven't watched much of the TV shows yet (still plodding through Arrow on Netflix when I visit the US so I can watch everything "in order") but Flash looks good from the bits I see waiting for AoS to start. I'm a Marvel guy for sure but I've never been afraid to enjoy something outside of Marvel if it's good. DC stuff or otherwise.

Wasn't sure where else to post this so figured this general DC thread would do.
Re-watched the Nolan films over the weekend and have to say that I would have loved to have seen a Nightwing film with Gordon-Levitt (or have him take over as Batman, or whatever). They did such a great job with that character showing his belief in Batman, his distaste for guns, his frustration with "the system" etc. I don't know enough about the comic variations of Robin etc. but I was really left wishing they had been able to keep that part of the story going. Bruce basically passing the torch to him and Wayne manor becoming the boys home etc.
