In terms of the regular cast, I would list them as follows:
1. Elizabeth Henstridge . She gets more amazing with every appearance. I fear we will lose her to the big screen soon. 2. Iain De Caestecker. Similar reasoning. 3. Mallory Jansen. OK I cheated. She's not technically a regular, but she's been on 14 episodes so far. And she is awesome. 4. Ming Na. Such a convincing, different character than her real-life persona. Plus, she has had a chance to branch out lately. 5. Chloe Bennet. Never understood why so many people knocked her. I thought she did fine, from the beginning. 6. Brett Dalton. Grrs, I hate Ward so much its hard to separate the character from the actor. A sign of good acting, I suppose. 7. Clark Gregg. Don't get me wrong, I love the character. I tend to see Clark more than Coulson, most of the time, though.

1. Ming Na. She's had to act her ass off this season playing regular May, captured May, LMDMay, FWMay, crazy May, and any other iteration of May that I forgot. Oh and she's Mulan so there's that.
2. Clark Gregg. Okay, in terms of acting he hasn't had to have that much range (this season). However the man does everything; screenwriting, directing, producing, and anything else on his own projects. And he's always the nicest guy to fans, in real life and on social media. I couldn't bring myself to rank him lower than this. Maybe you just need to watch the movie The Adventures of Sebastian Cole, beren44. That or, for an emotional time, We Were Soldiers.
3. Iain De Caestecker. Evil Fitz is evil and you can tell that Iain loves it.
4. Elizabeth Henstridge. She could have taken Iain's position at number 3 but I gave it to him for evil Fitz. I think, of all the cast, Elizabeth has grown the most as an actress. She does things now that you would have never imagined her doing in the first season. Her performances are always solid, dually outstanding. Her ability to show Jemma's growth is similarly amazing.
5. Mallory Jansen. I've lost track of how many characters she's been called up to play, though that doesn't stop me from commenting on the fact that each and everyone is wholly unique. You see them as an individual, as they are meant to be.
6. Brett Dalton. He plays Ward in the way that you never know what he's thinking, and never know what he will do next.
7. Chloe Bennet. Honestly I feel bad for ranking her this low. She can dominate a scene when she's called upon to. Her growth nearly rivals Elizabeth's in terms of performance. She is awesome in real life. The only reason she's this low is that, in all honesty, Daisy has always been an interesting character, however not my most favorite, so bias won out.

If she's THAT GOOD and she's amazed by him....... then he gets a higher rating from me.

1. Elizabeth Henstridge—In "4,722 Hours," she took a plothole-ridden script and singlehandedly turned it into arguably the finest hour of the show.
2. Iain De Caestecker—Most of the best moments of the show occur with him and Henstridge on screen. If he is given the same opportunity that Henstridge received in "4,722 Hours," I suspect that there would be a tie for first place.
3. Ming Na—It is very tough to play a character as stoic as May while instilling as much humanity as she does.
4. Clark Gregg—This show exists because of his ability to make a minor character from Iron Man memorable.
5. Brett Dalton—He was weak in the beginning, but he showed what he could do once his character turned evil.
6. Henry Simmons—He is not a bad actor, but the fact that he is not even mentioned on the other two lists on this page suggest that he is not that memorable.
7. Chloe Bennet—She has grown as an actress and is great at action scenes. However, when her character was shot in "T.R.A.C.K.S.," I was not rooting for her to be saved.

1. Iain De Caestecker - Iain and Elizabeth are very close to their acting abilities. But IMO Iain has more subtility in his acting. He also can generate a lot of power without making it feel overacting. Like in his scene with Daisy when he confronted her with her inhumanity or in his fight with the monolith. Elizabeth has shown this power in her scene with Coulson last episode as well. That was a difference I had between the two. He really created the character Fitz. With different layers on top on each other and with the ability to swap one for becoming evil and keep the rest of Fitz in tact. 2. Elizabeth—Same as Iain, but just less subtle. I think she started as a very talented actor and still managed to get better. That scene with Coulson last ep. is one of those examples of that IMO. 3. Clark Gregg—This show exists because of his ability to make a minor character from Iron Man memorable. I can just copy this and add to it that that is a pretty damn big achievement. I would put him number one for this alone, but I just find Iain and Liz better actors. 4. Ming Na— She plays the stoic character, but at times when she needs to show emotion there is no lack of showing it. Perfectly within the framework of being stoic. 7. Chloe Bennett—She has grown as an actress a lot IMO. 5. Brett Dalton—He feels the same in every way in whatever he needs to do as Ward. As Hive he plays it differently though. But it gets the job done and worked very well with him being evil. 6. Henry Simmons—He fits within the role he plays. But there were scenes where you can see that he really needs other actors around to make it work.

So, should we start a thread on Orphan Black too? I'm betting you have watched it. Talk about a versatile actress! Tatiana Maslany has re-written the rules, for everyone out there! Even when the script falters, she manages to be amazing. So glad we are getting one more full season to wrap it up. Its time, and its been a good run. I hope she gets the recognition she deserves, and some big-screen roles soon.

I'm willing to bet you, right here, right now... from what I know of you, and your aptitude for character development, it is going to be one of your very favorite shows ever. Bump it up to the top of your list, and don't even think about watching it out of order. Its hard to even discuss a single thing about it to a newbie, because I promise you, hand on my heart hope to die, that you will just LOVE it. It is so right up your alley! I wish I could tell you even the premise of it, but ... nah...better not...

Yes, I totally agree, TommyWizard , I actually only really like the first 2 seasons..it kind of went off the rails after that, plot-wise...but Tatiana was worth wading through the sewage for, she is just incredible. And to be fair, they got past the muck, and towards the end of season 4 it was getting decent again. I'll definitely ride out the storm and watch all of season 5. And since you have seen it, you know exactly what I mean, about not being able to say a thing about the show to someone who has not seen it. We have to get caseyrook AKA Mechelle onboard with this one, I'll give her 3 episodes and then sell the rest of them to her, just like a drug dealer would do! Talk about a show that spoilers apply to! Yep this is one of them. Don't you dare reveal even the pilot episode! This is one that needs to unfold in front of your own eyes, from moment 1. Nice to find a fellow Tatiana fan here!! Stay away from EVERYTHING concerning the show, Casey..just go watch it.

I hope that none of my comments appear too negative. The writing may be inconsistent (to put it nicely), but the cast keeps me looking forward to the next episode. This show has a strong group of actors.
I ranked the actors who are credited for >60 episodes above. Here is my ranking of those credited with 27-35 episodes:
1. Nick Blood—He may have played the comic relief role, but good comic acting is not as easy as it might seem. If ranked with the longer-term actors, he would be between Clark Gregg and Brett Dalton.
2. John Hannah—He is also very good with the comic relief. If ranked with the longer-term actors, he would be between Brett Dalton and Henry Simmons. Actually, Blood, Dalton, and Hannah would be tightly clumped.
3. Adrianne Palicki—She is a solid actress, but she does not stand out in a very talented cast. If ranked with the longer-term actors, she would rank very close to Henry Simmons.
4. Luke Mitchell—Some of the blame goes to the writing, but it seems like fans are split between those who hate his character and those who do not care about his character. He might be good elsewhere, but he was not a good fit here. If ranked with the longer-term actors, he would be below Chloe Bennet.
I will not rank all the actors credited with fewer than 20 episodes, but some standouts include (in alphabetical order):
Mallory Jansen—It is easy to play a robotic character poorly. It is very difficult to play one as well as she does.
Dichen Lachman—We were surprised when her character became the big bad of season 2 only because she was also good at playing the motherly character. I have been impressed with what she can do since Dollhouse.
Kyle MacLachlan—Admittedly, he did chew the scenery a lot. However, he did a good job of showing the humanity within his character.
Ruth Negga—She impressed me very early on. I am happy to see her get Oscar recognition.
Patton Oswalt—Another good comic relief actor who is quite good at giving subtle differences between the various characters that he plays.
Bill Paxton—He also spent a lot of time chewing the scenery. However, if he were able to film one last scene in the Framework arc before he died, I would be very happy.

I would really like an entire episode with Iain carrying the load. I am willing to bet you are correct, and he could handle it just fine. Love it! I hope the show runners read this board, LOL! And now that they have introduced his father, this is a golden opportunity for that to happen.

The cast of Aos are so underrated imo. Like there isn't a weak link in the bunch, they're really talented as a whole and they have great chemistry with each other. I do think some of the actors are better than others but, because the cast works so well together, it never feels like anyone out acts anyone else on the screen?
1. Iain - I honestly think he's the best actor on the show with the biggest range. He's also got a naturalness and subtlety that I think just elevates him above everyone else because it feels so real. He never overdoes it and has been a consistently solid performer since season 1 (and he still stands out despite being the only regular that's never had a proper character centric episode). When they do give him something to sink his teeth into he just shines.
2. Mallory - I know she's not a regular but she's been acting her socks of lately and it's been amazing to watch. She's only been in the show 1 season and she's already made her mark. I love to hate Aida and, whilst I want the team to kill her, I don't want her to leave the show. And i think that's all down to Mallory. She's the Tatiana of Shield.
3. Elizabeth - I have to agree with the general consensus that Liz has probably grown the most as an actor over the years, second only to Chloe. I always thought she showed promise in seasons 1 and 2 (especially in her scenes with Iain) but i think she's improved significantly as time has gone on. She makes highly emotional scenes look incredibly easy and she single handedly carried '4,722 hours'.
4. Chloe - Tbh I always thought, like Liz, Chloe showed promise in season 1. She wasn't the best actor on the show but I never thought she deserved the criticism she got. She's grown exponentially though I'm so impressed. She has fantastic comedic timing, amazing physicality (i cannot believe how many of her own stunts she does, she's brilliant) and has now shown how good she can be in big emotional scenes. She also seems like an amazing person in real life so i hope she goes far.
5. Ming - I think the most impressive thing about Ming is the fact that May is absolutely nothing like her in real life? Whilst the other actors have kind of introduced their own real life quirks and traits into their performance, Ming has always had to remain stoic and impassive. But she still has to show the emotion and feelings behind that wall she puts up and she does it brilliantly. 'Melinda' has always been one of my favourite episodes of the show and Ming carried it.
5. Clark - What Clark doesn't have in acting range he makes up with charisma and charm. This show wouldn't exist without Coulson and Coulson wouldn't exist without Clark. Despite everything they've put Coulson through, he still remains trustworthy and likeable and charming and that's all thanks to Clark's earnest performance.
6. Henry - The only reason Henry is last tbh is because he's just not been given the same opportunities as the rest of the cast. But the one and only time I've ever cried about this show is in 'Parting Shot' when you see Mack's devastated face at the end before he walks out the bar. He was crazy emotive and it broke me. I have a feeling he might do that again before this arc is over.
