Disney's released the full audio of Josh Groban's credit song "Evermore" Lyrics: I was the one who had it all I was the master of my fate I never needed anybody in my life I learned the truth too late I'll never shake away the pain I close my eyes but she's still there I let her steal into my melancholy heart It's more than I can bear Now I know she'll never leave me Even as she runs away She will still torment me Call me, hurt me Move me, come what may Wasting in my lonely tower Waiting by an open door I'll fool myself, she'll walk right in And be with me for evermore I rage against the trials of love I curse the fating of the light Though she's already flown so far beyond my reach She's never out of sight Now I know she'll never leave me Even as she fades from view She will still inspire me Be a part of everything I do Wasting in my lonely tower Waiting by an open door I'll fool myself, she'll walk right in And as the long, long nights begin I'll think of all that might have been Waiting here for evermore

Saw the movie today and absolutely LOVED it. It was full of nostalgia but also had (IMO) enough things that were new/expanded on that it didn't feel like a rehash. For example, a bit more into the Beast's background, into Belle's, and there was some that was expanded on with some of the castle staff. I loved that... The Enchantress had more of a.....lasting...presence throughout the film with the idea that she's been keeping an eye on things I absolutely love all the songs, especially the new ones. Love all the cast and their voices (yes, even Emma). I think everyone was perfectly cast. I think this movie came together really really well. Would gladly see it again

Not really my genre but I may check it when it comes to cable.

I just came back from watching Beauty and the Beast and I'm not gonna lie.... this movie made my heart soar! I still think they could have cast someone looking more like "the most beautiful girl in town" than Emma Watson for Belle, because she still looks like a fifteen year old tomboy to me, but she nailed both the acting and the singing parts, so no real complaints here. The rest of the cast was marvelous, although one might argue that Luke Evans is just a bit too charming to be a believable Gaston. But then again, he is such a good singer and has such an incredible presence on screen, that I can't imagine anyone else doing a better job than him in the role. They did incredible work on all the old songs, seriously, just amazing! I have to admit that I kind of missed Belle singing to the sheep in her first song, but I guess that part had to be scratched for realism. And because most sheep are really sucky actors. I'm not a real fan of the new songs, mostly because I think they weren't necessary. Especially the Beast's song after Belle left the castle totally ruined the mood for me. In the original version he cries out once in anguish that she's gone, then he falls into silent desperation. Here he sings a two minute song about how lonely he now is, but it still felt far too cheerful for me. The rest of the new content was really great, though. Background info on all the characters, more interactions between the castle staff, as well as between Belle and the Beast. Plus, a personal highlight for me, they explained basically every illogical aspect the original movie never touched on, like for example, why nobody in the village knew about the huge castle right there in the middle of the forest. Also, I loved all the humour! Gaston was a real highlight here imo. His version of "happy thoughts"... Oh, dear! All in all, a wonderful movie! Beauty and the Beast (or rather "Die Schöne und das Biest", as my VHS tape still says ) is the first movie I've ever seen in the theater and I did not for a single moment regret seeing the new version tonight!

Well, it's not just a song about how lonely he is though, it's a song about how Belle has changed him and how, even though she's not physically there anymore, a part of her remains due to how she affected him. Look at the 2nd chorus:
Now I know she'll never leave me, Even as she fades from view. She will still inspire me, Be a part of everything I do.
So yes, there is an element of hope to the song because of how she changed him... personally I loved it (both Dan singing it as well as Josh Groban's credit version)

So yes, there is an element of hope to the song because of how she changed him... personally I loved it (both Dan singing it as well as Josh Groban's credit version) You're certainly right in that the general mood of the song fits the lyrics. It's not even that I have anything against the song itself. Both the movie version and Josh's are beautiful, I guess I just really dislike the change of the mood in that particular scene compared to the original movie. Come to think of it, they really changed a lot of the tone in the finale, especially in regard to the Beast. If I remember correctly, they skipped the whole "Let them come in" (or whatever he says in English here) moment, when he's being informed about the attack on the castle. Then the whole fight scene with Gaston is different. In the original Beast almost lets himself get beaten to death until he realises Belle has returned, but I think they removed that part entirely as well. Hmm... now I kinda wonder why. Was that scene to dark for today's Disney Company or where they just trying to mix things up a bit? Either way, in the end it basically comes down to personal preference. I always liked the "dark and depressing" part of the original movie and found the change a bit jarring. It didn't dampen my overall enjoyment of the remake, though.

Did anyone else hate how they changed the scene with the librarian in the beginning? I don't care that they made him a black guy, but why skip the part where he gifts Belle her favourite book? Or leave out the line about there not being any new books since yesterday? This was such a fun and charming moment in the original, but here the whole scene seemed just odd and almost out of place to me.

One correction in the film Père (Father) Robert isn't a librarian, he's the village pastor/priest/clergyman. I was actually fine with the change. It never made sense for a village as small as Belle's to have a full blown book store...and with them so out of the way it would make sense that new books wouldn't be coming in daily... Probably not even weekly. I was okay with the change in dialogue going more to the fact that Belle used the books to travel the world while being confined to such a small village.

veering off-topic slightly, here is a clip from MY favorite Disney movie of all time. Still, I promise to watch Beauty and the Beast, even though it seems like a 'girlie' show, just because I promised ayanami that I would. She kinda makes me feel this way, even from across an ocean.
