One suggestion I would make for good fiction to read is anything written by Orson Scott Card.
I think the best novel I ever read is "The Stars My Destination" by Alfred Bester. It's the only book I've read 4 times. It may be 5. I forget.

Just finished Shifting Shadows I think it was called. The short stories in the Mercy Thompson universe. Some of them I didn't want to end. I wanted more of the Tom and Moria one for example. I wonder though why the writer had a vampire named Thomas too. Couldn't she have given him another name since there's already Tom the werewolf? It was a bit confusing at first lol. Soon starting on "Fire Touched".

'Mr. Monk Goes To The Firehouse (Mr. Monk #1' by Lee Goldberg.
I stumbled into a Monk obsession and decided to start reading the books.

Currently reading The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. Already read Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code a couple years back. I like the historical stuff, just like with Assassin's Creed, and the books are a nice read.

I read the full novel for Ender's Game almost 30 years before reading the short story. I think I made it about 10-15 minutes into the movie. My own amendment to bigvanray's suggestion would be to avoid Lovelock because it is written as the first book of a trilogy with all sorts of things left open for the next book, but it's been 23 years without any sign of the second book coming. It would be too much like all the tv shows you got into during their first season that got cancelled on a cliffhanger.

I don't read (for fun) that often. Reading is challenging because of my dyslexia so if I read something it's usually because it somehow relates to whatever I happen to be obsessed with and will take me a long time. Not to mention, my ADD sees to it I have to really be into something for it to hold my attention.

I barely put it down until I was finished.
