I'm excited for DSC because it will be the first 'new' ST show that I will be actively be watching (ENT ended in '05, I was 12 and barely knew the name Kirk), although I'm a bit concerned and peeved that it's going to be on CBSAllAccess.
There are a LOT of people who either don't have internet or can't afford the extra money for a subscription service. Can DSC really pull in the numbers that needs to to be considered a 'success?'
I'm peeved because ST is a franchise set in world where money is not the thing in which the world revolves around and it seems just a bit ironic that they want you to pay monthly for the ability to watch it.
What are your feelings about Star Trek: Discovery?

I can see why STD is a bit awkward, but are we really calling it DSC?
A franchise is commercial pretty much by definition but I take your point. I stopped buying Doctor Who Magazine a while back because it just seemed to be a catalogue of the latest products to separate fanatical DW fans from their hard-earned.
Oh, when I was twelve, Kirk was the only Enterprise captain going (apart from Pike & April, I guess).

What are your feelings about Star Trek: Discovery? I was really excited for the show when it was first announced but my excitement dwindled to disappointment and then to extreme displeasure when i found out about the "all access" crap. I'm wondering if I'll even watch the premiere on CBS. Since I can't stream, it would be a waste to watch it on CBS then be left hanging.....

Since none of the other Trek shows have the 'ST' in their abbreviations, I don't see why it shouldn't be called DSC. Also, I just remembered I forgot to add that to my list of abbreviations in the Common Room.

Besides, I don't think I'd pay for CBS All Access just for Star Trek Discovery

DIS would be more in line with ENT & VOY and less likely to be confused with DS9, but I can't say I've got strong feelings bout it. If Star Trek fans in general are calling it DSC, I'm fine with it!

I just have to point out this lovely advertisement for The Vampire Diaries the CW ran a couple of years ago here: Isn't it great? LOL OMG that is actually here in Los Angeles at the Club Whiskey. And to the OP, I don't like this show's plot. I mean another show going backwards instead of thinking of new ideas and going forward. And yes, I see the irony in them putting this show behind a paywall considering Star Trek's Federation was anti-capitalist.

Eh, I'm dyslexic. DSC is easier on dyslexia than SID. I've seen it written both ways, honestly. As for DS9, I don't use the acronym and instead just say 'that space station show.' Then again, I've never been accused of being a DS9 fan.

And yes, I see the irony in them putting this show behind a paywall considering Star Trek's Federation was anti-capitalist. I'm a bit apprehensive about the plot myself. But I do have questions: Will the Klingons look like TOS Klingons? If they don't, the two episode arc that ENT had to explain the difference would be wasted. Will a VEEEERY old Archer make an appearance? Scott Bakula hinted at the 50th Anniversary in Las Vegas that that's a possibility because he met with then showrunner Bryan Fuller. (Also NCIS: New Orleans is a CBS show too.) If he does, I'm sold because since the days of TNG, there's always been then tradition of the 'kiss' I.e. a character from the previous franchise appearing in the pilot. Even ENT had one in the form of Zephram Cochrane. Speaking of ENT, will this one have Denobulans or Betazoids? I'm not wanting one or the other to be a main character, but a reference to them would be nice if they aren't shown. Lastly, will the show match the 60's look of TOS? I sort of hope it does.
