SPOILERS for the show ahead, so obviously don't read unless you've already seen it (or just don't care)! I'm not gonna be bothering with spoiler tags.

Please excuse that slightly weird title; I was trying to keep at least that one spoiler free.
So, I'm on episode 7 of Iron Fist by now and I find myself really liking that show. Easily my favourite Marvel Netflix show next to Daredevil and unless the plot goes complete haywire in the second half, it'll definitely stay in front of JJ and LC. One of the reasons why I like it so much is certainly the similarity to Daredevil, but that is not the only similarity I can't help but notice.
It seems to me that Ward Meachum and Grant Ward share more than just a name. Both of them were constantly bullied by their own family while growing up and both of them are (were) being controlled by a manipulative father figure as an adult. Harold Meachum and John Garrett are very different personalities, but I find the way they control(led) their respective "victims" to be almost eerily similar. Both use open dominace, but also constantly remind Ward how much they care about him, and how much they rely on his help for their own survival.
It's pretty clear so far that IF's Ward is struggling with that control more than Grant did, what with his escalating drug problem, and I guess it's a matter of interpretation as to what factor has the biggest influence here. Maybe Grant was already too broken to begin with when Garrett got his hands on him. Maybe it's Joy's presence in Ward's life that's keeping him from becoming his father's puppet entirely. I just know that whenever Harold tells his son that he loves him, I get creeped out in the same way I did when Garrett asked Grant if the people he cared about were a weakness.
EDIT: So, I actually finished episode 7 now. Boy that escalated quickly!
