First off, I don't think I want this to happen. But I can see an upside.
I know Maria Hill's on screen death confirmed she wasn't a Skrull. Or did it?
Remember a few things:
1. Nick Fury faked his death once and Maria was completely in on that. She (or someone with her knowledge) could pull it off. 2. Fury was limping like a madman when he first met up with Maria and has barely limped since. However Gravik had reports that Fury could barely walk. Did that report come from a Skrull Hill? 3. Gravik made it clear that killing Hill in front of Fury was meant to punish him. 4. Who knows more about Fury than Hill?
My theory is that before the events of this series started, Gravik grabbed Hill. Soren died (who was impersonating Hill) so there's a possible connection there. Or maybe they had grabbed Soren (are Skrull imitation and memory powers transferable?).
So this would mean that Hill may be alive in a pod somewhere which somewhat makes sense given Hill's continued role in the comics and potential in the MCU, plus Smolders is the right type of actor to maintain a recurring role both in films and TV projects.
Again, I'm not sure I want this as it will lead to cries of "fake death!!!" which the MCU does more often than I'd like already. But if it gets us a Maria Hill going forward in the MCU I'm okay with that part of it at least. I'd like to have seen something that hinted that it wasn't the real Hill earlier on though. Having her mother confront Fury sort of doubled down on it being a real death.

I see you.
Fury manipulated Phil Coulson's death to attempt to "incentivize" the team into coalescing and giving them something to "Avenge" even though they didn't know that Carol Danvers was the genesis of the name. (Oh well, what's a Colonel to do??!!)
I'm stuck on Gravik wanting to hurt Fury, and Gravik has NO respect for human life whatsoever. He could have killed Nick Fury at any time once he arrived back on Earth, and yet I see your point in Gravik using Hill to tease out any secrets about Fury and possibly the USofA by keeping her captive and in his back pocket.
The long game for the MCU would be to incorporate Agents of SHIELD back into canon with Project Tahiti (Kree blood and Quake) being brought into play. Fury would need an army to fight a Million Skrulls and what better army than Inhumans. It was one iteration of the Kree that implanted humans with latent modified DNA that would be eventually triggered at the right time to aid in their battle with the Skrulls. The Kree were creating Biologically enhanced weapons because their race was stagnant AND they needed to outflank the Skrulls.
It would be (my comic-book glee is coming out now) fascinating to have that printed canon make its way to the big screen via Secret Invasion.
