I am a bit torn. It had lots of great moments and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, but I guess I was expecting more of a balance between the goofiness and some serious elements. They definitely went with more goofy. Which is fine and it was well done, but I'd almost want to see another version where they focus on the darker elements a bit more.
I'll have to see if additional viewings change my opinion.
Again, I liked it. But for the moment I liked Doctor Strange: MoM more.

I've heard similar! I'm going to see it on Tuesday and I bet my reaction will be similar.

It was odd. I was aware that it was a great movie and everyone around me was clearly enjoying. I was enjoying it as well but couldn't shake the feeling of "I wish it 10% less goofy".
It's possible I've outgrown Taika Waititi a little bit. Or maybe I was just in a bit of a fussy mood.

It's possible I've outgrown Taika Waititi a little bit. Or maybe I was just in a bit of a fussy mood. You know, this is exactly the reaction I've been seeing from most people! They are essentially saying they liked it, but wished they could watch another cut with more plot and fewer jokes. I read that there were whole characters and scenes that were cut, so I wonder how much of that we'll see in the extras when those become available. I'm seeing it tomorrow, so I should have my take on it then.

Just got back from seeing this (in 3D too!) and I really enjoyed it! I felt pretty much the same. It was heavy on the humour, but I never got to the point where it annoyed me. I hear the original cut was something like 4hours and some change, so I really do hope we get to see a good chunk of the cuts that were made. Also, just so everyone knows how long to stay and watch, there are two post-credit scenes this time. In the continuum of things, I'd say I enjoyed this much more than Eternals. I'd put it up there with any of the Guardians movies, which I've always really liked. And if I didn't go into this already knowing Taika Waititi directed, I would have immediately been able to tell. Not complaining, because I do love his style. I'd recommend seeing this in the theatre if you can. It was worth the $$.

Had I gone in knowing what to expect more I'd be right there with you (not that I'm far off). Apparently they left out a lot of the "butchering" and TW doesn't sound keen on releasing a director's cut or anything. But we'll see - there has been lots of calls for it.

I saw this film last Sunday (July 24). Compared to other Thor films, I liked this one better than the first two but not as much as Thor: Ragnarok. Compared to post-pandemic MCU films, I liked Spider-Man: No Way Home, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness better than this one, but I liked this one better than Black Widow and Eternals. I did not have a problem with the humor in this film. In general, I find that Chris Hemsworth is better at comedy than when he is trying to be serious. If I were to cite a single problem with the film, it is this: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness came out on May 6. On the morning of May 8, there was a spoiler thread started to discuss what happened in the film. Two and a half weeks after the release of Thor: Love and Thunder, nobody seems to have found the film interesting enough to want to discuss anything that happened in the film that might constitute a spoiler. I have a few thoughts that I will put in spoiler tags. There was a time in which the MCU saw gods as simply advanced aliens. This was the case as late as Eternals, which included characters like (A)Thena, who would be the daughter of Zeus. Of course, I would understand if the MCU wanted to forget Eternals.
Why is Zeus the top god in the universe? He reigned over a land that, today, has only about 10.4 million people. Today, most of these people worship a very different deity if they worship a deity at all. I noticed that the other deity was not seen on screen (unless it was in a blink-and-you-will-miss-it scene when I blinked), although there is debate as to whether that deity's son was mentioned. I assume that Zeus was the top god because there is more and better stories about his pantheon than about other pantheons in the western world.
I think that we are supposed to view Korr's god-killing as a bad thing. However, other than Asgardians, it appears that any decent gods were offscreen with the onscreen gods being jerks. Being a jerk may not merit the death penalty, but it is hard to say that mortals are better off with them.
For every powerful entity introduced after Avengers: Infinity War, there is always the question of what they were doing when Thanos was threatening all worlds? Other than Asgardians, I do not remember any of the other gods even putting up a fight. After the snap, did half of all gods disappear?
In another thread, I noted that Iain De Caestecker did not seem interested in returning to the MCU. I imagine that Sif would be very disappointed in this news as she now would have use for one of the cool arms that Fitz created for Coulson.
So, there is a super-powerful entity that sits around and does nothing while waiting for someone to arrive and have a wish fulfilled (apparently without question). That seems like a very boring life. If Eternity was snapped, would he/it even notice?

Just today got around to seeing it. This movie is definitely over the top on humor. Most of what I could say was already said in the Pitch Meeting except, supposedly Thor disabled to path to Eternity when he freed Stormbreaker, yet Gorr was still able to use that portal. Also, Gorr hadn't made his wish yet, so Thor should easily have been able to get to him and neutralize him before that wish.On a side note, I wonder if Thor got the idea for sharing his power with all of the children from watching the Shazam movie.
