I guess I'm the only person on the planet that actually liked the Captain Marvel movie? I liked it too! I’ve never really understood all the hate that the movie and Brie get. I'm usually a Positive Pete anyway, but I agree. There's nothing wrong with how Brie played the part in my opinion. I honestly think the rumors of her not getting along with people on set is making some fans dislike her and even the character. Which is silly and sort of a self-inflicted wound IMO.

Actually, her getting on a soap box and saying she doesn't care about the opinions of "white dudes" may have played a factor.

Which is silly and sort of a self-inflicted wound IMO. In my many viewings, I've paid attention to attempt to suss if it was bad acting or the character's personality. I think she played it how they wanted her to. It kind of reminds me of the flack Ming Na Wen got early on for her portrayal of May in AoS - people finally realized it wasn't the actress, it was the character. TBH, though, better writting/direction may have improved Larson's portrayal as the movie did seem flat at times (not always Brie's scenes) and that's on the Director (not you, Jemma Simmons). Brie's personality on set (off screne) and on social media has no influence on my opinion of this film. Hari Seldon: Yes, she pi$$ed off a lot of white dudes and that probably says more about the white dudes than the white dudette that called them out. There was a lot of that going on back then as Me Too was breaking out all over and Harvey Weinstein was looking for a hole to crawl into. "White dudes" were being called out as it was revealed that the one thing that made white priviledge seem less offensive, was White Male Priviledge.

Interesting that you mention Ming Na Wen. Her character on Boba Fett is almost "space May". So hard to tell if she got the part and was directed that way because they wanted "space May" or if that's just how she interpreted the character. Or if that's her "range" which I don't think so since I've seen her in other things.
But really good point - you have to think about everything that goes into a project. The actor, sure, but also the writing, directing and even editing.
Chris Evans come to mind. I recall some outrage when he was first cast as Steve Rogers and my first thought was "he nailed Johnny Storm so why not?" while many people thought he *was* Johnny Storm and not just acting like him. (Not that those FF films were great of course)

I haven't seen Boba yet (or Mandalorean either) as I'm still waiting for Streaming capable internet. Soon, I hope. My Electric company has run fiber and I'm just waiting for them to flip the switch...............

Worth the watch when you get the chance for sure.

(Not that those FF films were great of course) She got it because as i pointed it in the Boba Fett topic she was already voicing the character in Clone wars and i think the design of the character was pretty much based on her As for Chris Evans i think at some point his career got even better and better and got more complexed roles.

Right. Was speaking mostly about her getting the part originally (i.e. the voice part in Clone Wars). But was her character based on _her_ or on Melinda May? We may never know I guess. (And it really doesn't matter much since I like the character regardless of how they arrived at it.)
