Thanks Boss for setting up this sub-board. I'm a huge fan of King. If there's something he's written that I haven't read it's simply because I missed it somehow. I actually was introduced to King (at least his books) through The Dark Half. From there I read everything I could find and loved it all (to varying degrees). I'm actually very much NOT a horror fan at all. But I love the way he writes characters. He's been accused of having about 6 different characters in total in all his books and I can see how people get that idea. But the minutia and benign details he includes are what makes his characters more real IMO. And in some of his works he's sort of leaned into the idea that most characters are copies of each other. Sort of halfway between "everyone is the same at our core" and "yeah these are all versions of me, deal with it".
Love King!

The Dark Half is actually one of the few books of his that I had trouble finishing because the straight razor stuff was just a little too much for me. I do find it hilarious that he dedicated it to Bachman before anyone found out who Bachman was! I've even managed to read a few of his short stories that he's since pulled. I also agree with you about the way he writes characters and what you said about his inclusion of the little details making it seem more "real". That's one of the things I love about "The Stand". His inclusion of that "no great loss" chapter and such. It also helps set the mood with his books because there's always something slightly 'off' at the beginning, but you can't quite put your finger on what it is.
