I know this has been in the works for a while, but I’m so excited to get another adaptation of the SK novel! I read the brick around once a year and it’s easily one of his better works. Anyone else looking forward to this?

I only read the book once, ages ago, but I remember really liking it. So, yeah, I'm looking forward to the adaption.

There's also a Marvel comics run of The Stand that's really good.

First teaser trailer! The series will start airing in December! Gotta say, I wasn’t too sure about Whoopi Goldberg in this, but then I remembered she was awesome in The Color Purple.

Anyone else watching? Thoughts? I suppose I should spoiler tag my initial thoughts. So far, I’m pretty happy with it. I get why they’re doing the flashbacks and just introducing a few characters in an episode. I also think that this might help break up the “rebuilding society in Boulder” stuff which, while interesting reading, can be kind of tedious when translated to film. I’m also not bothered by some of the character changes. (i.e. Ralph is now Ray and Judge Harris is a woman.) No real complaints about the actors so far. It’s also helpful that they aren’t constrained by network TV standards, so they can be “gritty”. td;lr M-O-O-N. That spells ‘pretty good!’

With only the coda episode to go, I have to say I am really enjoying what they did with this series. The changes aren’t bothering me at all and I’m so impressed with the actors. I do wish they’d stretched it out a bit to get even more character development, but I think they’ve done what they can with the time they had. Anyone else watching this?

Just finished watching the series. Overall, I thought it was okay. I was impressed with last week's episode and I think they did what they could with the time they had, considering the sheer scope of the novel. I wish there had been some more time for character development/back stories. I'm still not sure how I feel about the time jumps in the first few episodes. I also thought the actors did great with what they were given. I am really disappointed that they showed NOTHING of Stu and Tom's trip back to Boulder after the bomb went off. I would have been happy with another episode just to address the trip back and all. The coda was interesting, but I felt unnecessary, as far as the plot went. I understand King wanted Frannie to have her own face-off with Flagg, but it just seemed so contrived.

I wish I had access to this. I'm sure it's available in Canada to one of the 100000 streaming services but I still refuse to sign up for all of them.

Yeah, it looks like it should be available on CBS All-Access up there. I already had this so I could watch Star Trek: Discovery and Picard, so I lucked out there. I definitely recommend it once you can find it! I was pretty happy with it overall. The cast was fantastic and I can't think of a single weak link. I'm just disappointed it wasn't longer. It's hard to translate that brick of a book into an 8 hour miniseries when the audiobook itself runs almost 48 hours.

I finished it last night and I gotta say, I was pretty underwhelmed overall. Especially with the last episode. Just... WHY??? Like you said, Jemma Simmons , it was completely unnecessary! I literally kept thinking stuff like: What is this?? Why are we here? Why is this show still running?!? Also, why is Flagg running around with his shirt unbuttoned? I mean, okay, it's Alexander Skarsgard, so I'm not entirely complaining - maybe I should rewatch True Blood some day - but it was just so fricking stupid! And Mother A. suddenly got reborn or something as a kid with super powers?? After one of the main points of her character this whole time has been how low-key she acts as god's messanger, now she's suddenly gone full X-Men!? Just... why?! How convenient, btw, that Frannie and Stu didn't run into a single dead person on their trip. What, were they out of money for this add-on episode, or did they think a couple of gross corpses would mess up the image of a brave new world they wanted to end the show with? All in all I'm actually surprised just by how disappointed I am by the show. I have read the book, but that was once like twenty years ago, so I can't really say I went into this with any particular expectations. The cast in general is okay - James Marsden is always a favourite of mine - with the kid who played Harold probably being the break-out star here. Fun fact: The actor played one of the bullies in IT, so he's basically a Steven King adaptation veteran by now! I also usually enjoy Alexander Skarsgard's performances, but in The Stand he just didn't do it for me. I would have to go back to the book to be able to judge how he holds up to the original, but for me he just didn't work as the main villain. His Randal Flagg was more cartonish than menacing, more pretty-boy than actually charismatic. As for the rest, well, I suppose it's rather the writing's fault than that of the actors, but I found almost everyone else pretty forgettable. Except maybe Tom. Tom was great! As for the others, though, pretty sure that none of them are going to stay with me, and that is pretty sad for a story based on such an epic source material.
