My absolute, favorite cartoon of all time is Bullwinkle and Rocky, including all the ancillary stuff, i.e., Fractured Fairy Tales, Sherman and Peabody's Way Back Machine, Poetry Corner, and the like.
In fact, I went searching for my favorite line of poetry, to make this post. I couldn't find it. Bullwinkle is reciting 'Four and Twenty Blackbirds', and when he hands the pie to the king, the king counts them, and it is one short. Bullwinkle reaches into his pocket, pulls out a blackbird, and tells the king,
"Here. I always wanted to give you the bird!" LMAO
In much the same vein, the whole series was at least 3 levels deep, written more for grown-ups rather than the kiddos. I would imagine that some adults back then were concerned about even letting their little ones watch the show.
Upon searching, I came across this [barely suitable for work] clip instead. You have been warned.
