Want to quote and link to someone's post in a completely different thread and have it look like it does when you do it within the same thread? It's tricky... and a bit involved, so stick with me. Find the post you want to quote. So, in my example, I'm using DoTheMath 's discovery of the shoutbox featureIn that post, go ahead and click on the "Quote" button as if you were going to reply to that thread. The Reply page should load up with the post in question already quote and linked to all pretty like. Problem is, you don't want to actually respond to that thread. So, at the bottom of the text window where you type your reply are two tabs. By default you're always on "Preview" when you create a post, click on the other one that says "BBCode". Your text window should now have something that looks like [quote timestamp="*with a whole bunch of numbers here*" etc...]and at the very end ends with[/quote]Select and copy this ENTIRE code (Ctrl+A to select all, right click and select all, whatever your preference). Just be sure you're starting with the bracket before "quote timestamp" and ending with the closing bracket of /quote at the very bottom. Navigate to the different thread that you want to post this quote in. Whether by having multiple tabs open (and so one tab is already where you want to paste), or from the reply page you can click on the Home button in the board's navigation bar to get to where you need to go. Just make sure you've COPIED your code first before you navigate away. After you've hit "Reply" or "Create New Post" in whatever thread or forum that you want to paste the quote in. Don't immediately paste yet - being in the preview tab can sometimes screw up the spacing. Instead, click on that "BBCode" tab once again, and *then* hit "Paste" So in my example, what I pasted in the BBCode tab looks like: [quote timestamp="1486785079" author="@dothemath" source="/post/356/thread"]Did a little looking around in the help section and found out the Shout Box is basically an IM feature.
If any of you like to live chat during a show, you can do it in the Shout Box (pretty sure it's visible to all members on line).

Don't know if it has a hide or disable function for users, though. I'll play around some more and see if I can finger it out............

When you click back to the Preview tab you should then have the post from a completely different thread properly quoted and linked like so: Did a little looking around in the help section and found out the Shout Box is basically an IM feature. to follow up on nillindeiel 's comment.. here is some more info about the Shout Box. I have discovered, that as long as you STAY in it, and don't wander off to another thread, it will continue to buffer, and you can save hours of conversation, if you like. HOWEVER, if you even so much as refresh the page you are on, while chatting in it, all is lost, and you only see the last few comments made. |

Just a reminder for anyone new to the board. There are no hard and fast rules here, that I am aware of, concerning 'spoilers'. As a courtesy to others, we try hard to avoid anything 'spoilery' in the title of a thread. If the subject matter warrants it, we try to word the title carefully, and add *Spoiler* to the title
Or use the spoiler tag feature in the actual post for any relevant information revealed.
As a reminder, though its been noted already, this can be achieved by the following method (standard HTML tag type stuff):
[spoi ler]
The text you want to hide goes here.
[/spoi ler]
Note that I added whitespace in the word spoiler in order to demonstrate the style needed. You must of course NOT have white space for the feature to behave correctly.

If you want to demonstrate how to do a particular tag (without using the formatting buttons) but don't want the board to automatically do it (which defeats the purpose of trying to show what the tag is) and don't want to deal with the adding a space in. Use the button that's a "C" within a white box. Using this means that anything within that tag will ignore any other board tags like so: [b]If you want to bold text you wrap it in the tags at the beginning and end of this sentence[/b]

Well, the good thing about this board is, that with all the subboard, one can actually hang around here without risking spoilers as long as one stays out of the AoS related threads and doesn't look at the shoutbox. That's what I'll be doing until I watch the new ep later. Of course it's only considerate to not put stuff like "OMG, character X just died!!!" into a thread title, but personally I also find it annoying when people make posts like "That was crazy when you-know-who did the thing!" Being too careful regarding spoilers just gets silly at some point. All I'm saying... Which reminds me of another tip. Videos linked from Youtube or such should automatically embed now, as I selected that option in the admin tools.
