AWESOME show, with Henry Cavill doing an incredible job in the role of Gerald of Rivia, the titular Witcher. All eight episodes of the first season are out on Netflix, so I highly recommend checking it out. For anyone who doesn't have the time, here's a brief summary of what happens: Plus, it gave us what might just be the biggest ear worm of the last decade AND the next! Love you, Jaskier, a.k.a. Dandelion!

Question: How is it if you've never played the video game and have 0 knowledge going in? Honestly, I don't think it matters much. For one, the show is an adaption of the original book series, not the games. The games take place years after the books' finale and are in that regard not even considered canon. Plus, in a way it might even be better to go in without any up front knowledge, because then you won't be disappointed if a few of the characters look different than then games have portrayed them. (Seriously, I'm still regularly seeing guys on the internet having a nervous breakdown, just because one character, whose importance was blown waaaay up in the games, isn't portrayed on the show as the sexy ginger fap material they're used to. ) I can't really speak for myself here, but I've seen tons of comments from people who haven't played the games or read the books and still completely loved the show, so there's that.

I can't really speak for myself here, but I've seen tons of comments from people who haven't played the games or read the books and still completely loved the show, so there's that. So add one more. Though I was glad the season was only 8 episodes as I was having trouble tracking the time jumps a bit. Still not 100% sure if that angry fetus story included Ciri's family or not but otherwise I think I've got it straight. Was also hoping for more of a conclusion but knowing there's more to come softens that a little as well. Looking forward to season 2.

Lol, I seem to be drawing a blank on that plot line right now. Yeah, kinda agreed on the time jumps. I mean, at first it was clearly meant as a narrative element with the "surprise" being that the stories didn't all have the same starting point. But they REALLY messed up with the ten year time jump in the middle where mysteriously non of the characters age. Yennifer? Sure, that's her whole thing, after all. Geralt? He's a mutant with a very long life span, so that made sense, too. But Jaskier?!? He didn't even grow a beard of get a haircut, ffs! I think it was in a conversation between him an Geralt where they just casually mentioned that ten years had passed since the last ep or so and I was like: "Wait, WHAT??" Pretty sure even the production team admitted that they dropped the ball on that one, though.

The what now? Lol, I seem to be drawing a blank on that plot line right now. When Geralt broke the curse on that princess and her unborn baby. The one where the baby killed the other witcher. Geralt named the type of creature but I can't recall. Anyway, when the morning came and the creature reverted to a young girl I though it might have been Ciri but of course that didn't add up. Don't forget that Yennifer made a quip about "the crow's feet are new" that I suppose was an attempt to show that he had aged somehow. But yeah, I would have been okay with a little visit to the exposition fairy at some point.

Ah, right, Princess Adda the striga. Yeah, she doesn't really have anything to do with anything. The thing about The Witcher is, that it originally started out as a couple of short stories featuring Gerald's adventures, before the author really developed an over-arching plotline. The first book "The Last Wish" is apparently pretty much just a collection of those stories, with the "main" plot beginning in the second book. That also explains the different time periods we see in the first season of the show. The story about Gerald breaking the striga curse was the first Witcher story ever published, making it a pretty big deal in an of itself. It was also used as the intro scene for the first game, so I guess they probably wanted to appeal to the gamers by including it. Plus, it really is a genuinely dope fight scene, so...

Ah, right, Princess Adda the striga. Yeah, she doesn't really have anything to do with anything. Thank you. With all the incest allusions in that story and the flashbacks I got confused with some of the scenes of Ciri's parents in the flashbacks. At one point I thought that Ciri was the Striga and that would connect with how her and Geralt's story would sync up. But then we saw later how Ciri was the "surprise".
