I just finished replaying this absolute masterpiece and realised to my surprise that I never made a thread about it. Now that can't stand!
Alan Wake is a story driven action adventure thriller/survival horror/third person shooter and probably one of the - if not THE - most atmospheric games I've ever played. It follows the titular character Alan Wake, a successful author, as he arrives with his wife Alice in the small town Bright Falls for a vacation and to battle his persistent writer's block. But there is an evil presence lurking in the darkness and when it takes Alice, Alan has to not only search for his wife, but also figure out what happened in the week's time he can't remember. Oh, and of course fight off the endless wave of possessed people coming after him!
There's actually a "sequel" to the game, called Alan Wake: American Nightmare, but it's a very half-hearted attempt, basically ditching the intriguing story telling in favour of a lame shooter. BUT, the Remedy studio has recently re-acquired the rights to the franchise, so there might be hope for a proper sequel yet. Plus, they're working on a TV show based on the games, and I can't wait to see how that turns out.

There's also another game that is possibly related called Control. It was a pretty cool looking game in my opinion. Though I wasn't aware of the one you mentioned until watching a gameplay of Control. I suck at games like that personally, but I like watching them being played. It's kind of like watching a movie.
When I saw the name Matthew Poretta on the credits for Control, I was thinking I knew that name. So, I looked up his name and he played Will Scarlet (O'Hara) on Robin Hood: Men In Tights (and also played Robin Hood later on in a TV show). I think I remember seeing in his credits that he voiced Alan Wake as well. It might have even had him listed as voicing that character in Control, though I don't remember it showing that character, just the other character he played in video clips within the game. That character is named Casper Darling. It's possible that one of the audio files the main character in Control finds has someone interviewing Alan Wake or something, I dunno. But, there are tons of possessed people in the game that the main character has to fight.
I remember thinking it would make a cool show (if they didn't do what a lot of Hollywood is doing these days and add SJW stuff in it), but the lead character in Control is pretty cool. So, I hope the show you mentioned will be either on TV or Netflix. I hope it's not Amazon or Hulu or any of those other streaming services because I don't have them and can't really afford them (another family member pays for Netflix). I'm holding out for Disney+ so I can watch some of the Marvel shows (mainly Loki, the Sam/Bucky one and WandaVision since the latter will tie-in to the Doctor Strange sequel).

Oh, how much I loved Matthew as Will Scarlett and then as Robin Hood back in the day! It was a real shame they recast the part of Robin, although I have to admit that I don't remember all that much about the show. It's been awhile... As to Control, I haven't really seen much from the game, though it's on my wishlist for the future. Just like Quantum Break, where Matthew also appears as Alan Wake in some form. No idea how any of those games are connected, although it's definitely cool to have the same character appear across different titles. I really have high hopes for the TV show, just going by how TV show-like the original game plot already is. I wonder if they're going to cast Matthew Poretta as the lead, though. On the one hand he's the obvious choice, but then again, it's been almost ten years since the game came out, and if the show is still in the planning stage... Well, he isn't getting any younger, either.
