No, this thread is purposely in the Captain Marvel subforum, and contains Captain Marvel spoilers, so rather than spoiler it all out in the Black Widow subforum, I'm putting it here.
So, yeah, Captain Marvel spoilers ahead...
This is the type of movie I hope the Black Widow movie will be. Better directors and not necessarily an origin story, but isn't just about Romanoff. It would have to be about SHIELD as well, since she was so tightly associated with them after she defected. (Is Hawkeye in this movie?)
I thought it very clever having Coulson being the rookie, and showing he already implicitly trusts Fury more than the people above him. It sets already known facts about Fury and Coulson into a time frame, and the real reason Fury thinks the way Fury does.
Now the real dig I have about CM, is the directors confirm that they specifically staged a crapload of shots because they "admired" them from another movie. If you had a bunch of, "I've seen this before" moments, it's because you have, even though it's in a different context. Marvel's had some great success with Indie filmmakers like Gunn, but I think this movie might have been much better in more capable hands...
That said, I still maintain blue guys generally suck. Yondu was okay, but pretty much every Kree we've seen has been a dick. Just sayin'...

I think a Black Widow movie either has to pre-date her affiliation with SHIELD or completely tie into SHIELD. Can't do it half way really. If they decide to tell a story of her before Clint came after her, then fine. But if they tell that story or include that story and include Nat ending up with SHIELD then they sort of have to include quite a bit about where things are with SHIELD in general. Doing it similar to CM would make sense for sure.
One thing I was a bit surprised with from CM was that they basically portrayed the Skrulls as peace-loving innocents who just want to be left alone. Not sure how (or if?) they'll pivot that into a Skrull Invasion storyline in the future. Maybe it will be some of the Skrulls we saw in CM that have been radicalized by what the Kree did to them? Still doesn't really set them up as one of the most feared/powerful races in the universe though.

The Skrull lost and are being pursued and eradicated by the Kree.
I suppose it's possible that the Skrull could regroup and rearm, but they did seem to be portrayed as the more noble of the two races.
But yeah, the Skrull being... well, not the good guys, but the persecuted by the Kree was a surprise to me. I suspect it's to set up the Kree as dicks.
Then too, I guess you're okay if the Flerkin likes you.

Then too, I guess you're okay if the Flerkin likes you. Yeah I'm sure they have a plan. I just have always figured that at some point they'd do a "Skrull Invasion" storyline. Not only was it a great story in the comics but it lends itself well to either bringing back characters they might want to or introducing new actors playing established roles if they needed to. This portrayal of them as sympathetic (sort of) is a bit of a swerve from that. But yeah, I'm sure they know what they are doing.

I heard somewhere the other day that one of the Avenger actors (not sure who, maybe Sebastian?) accidentally spoiled that the Black Widow movie will take place between Civil War & Infinity War. That makes more sense than it being when she was really young because then she'd be digitally de-aged for her entire movie. I do suspect that there will be several flashbacks to when she was younger.

I am liking that phrase for a band name for my geriatric gang of thieves trying to still make some music....

I suppose that is one of the viable options. I'll be curious to see how they break her away from Cap and the others for her to go off on her own. Not really hard to do and happens a ton in the comics of course. And technically at the end of CW she's not with Cap et al yet anyway. I guess I'm more wondering who else might be in it.

I’ve heard this one too and also assume if it’s true that it’ll cover the period of time from when she switched sides at the airport to when she meets up with Cap and his crew.

That got me thinking of a bit of a Homecoming treatment. Use some b-roll footage or something to mix in some new content from that story, then get to the "main story" of the film (presumably something Nat has to take care of before simply syncing up with Cap). Or maybe even an Endgame treatment of sorts but instead of time travel to a previous film just new scenes that fit in.

Well, remember in Infinity War when she said something to Wanda about telling her to keep in contact? Maybe we will possibly see Wanda and Vision in at least one scene?

It would be kind of cool if they found a way to start her story with mixing in some Civil War stuff and then maybe end it around the same time as that moment (i.e. when Wanda is off to meet Viz and Nat reminds her to check in regularly etc.)
