Two main options for them I guess. Prequel (or mid-quel maybe I guess but that seems like it would be really tricky) or they can do an alternate timeline. I know there was talk of Marvel wanting to do some "what if?" projects. I'm not sure I can think of many decisions or moments in the MCU that would lead to a "what if?" for Natasha though. So my money is on prequel - maybe we'll finally get to see what really happened in Budapest.

The other rumour I’ve heard is that it will be a prequel showing what she did immediately post-Civil War. That could be interesting. It just seems weird we’re getting this movie now. (Not complaining! Just seems odd timing.). Most of the other movies seem to open up another part of the Marvel-verse or advance the overall story in some way. I’m just having trouble seeing how this movie will work in the overall scheme of things and not come off as “yeah, you nagged for a solo movie, so here you go.” I’m so glad they’re making it and I’ve been hoping Black Widow would get her own movie since Phase 1, but given Endgame, I am having trouble seeing how it’ll be anything but lip service.

It occurs to me, it could be a SHIELD movie. Was it ever established when she joined SHIELD? Seems she was already established as close to Fury in IM2...

I saw the post-Civil War thing too. I can't see how that would work really unless they've decided to sort of add in some one-shot type movies. I guess she's the best character to do it with though as I'm sure there's a ton of stuff she's been up to over the years that even Cap or Clint didn't know about. She's second only to Fury in secrets. But really, after CW wasn't she just with Cap, Wanda and Falcon living on the run? I suppose there's a gap between when Tony sort of left her to Ross' wrath and when she would have synced up with Cap and the people he broke out of the Raft. Ignoring the potential complications of ScarJo playing a much younger version of the character, I'd sort of rather see her transition from KGB to SHIELD. Including Barton "making a different call" etc. Though honestly I trust the MCU big brains (behind the camera) that whatever they decide to do I'm sure I'll watch and love it.

This is exactly how I feel about it, too. I'm positive I'll be blown away by whatever they do, but I just am not sure how they are going to pull it off.

I guess we’ll just hope this isn’t the direction they go...

That's not the only trailer that's come out so far.

Ugh, Red Sparrow was such a disapointing movie!
