I just started watching this HBO mini series thanks to the many positive comments I've seen about it on the internet and so far (about half way through the first episode) it does seem to be really good. But also soooooo bloody frustrating! Non only does almost nobody seem to realise that yes, radiation actually is a thing and, yes, it's really f*cking horrific and dangerous! There's also so much blatant denial! This scene is from a Harry Potter fan version in which the Minister of Magic, who in the books always denied that the evil sorcerer Voldemort has returned, is faced with and then killed by said sorcerer. And he still doesn't believe he's back! Jup, and that is exactly what it feels like watching those "experts" deal with the catastrophe on Chernobyl. "What?? No, the reactor can't exploded! The reactor didn't explode! And don't you dare say anything different, 'cause I'm gonna put my fingers in my ears now anyway. La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la."

This is on my "watch this before you cancel HBO because Game of Thrones is over" list. (And the Deadwood movie.)

Just finished episode 2 and the show is just incredibly well done! I mean, you know pretty much everything that's going to happen and how horrible it all is/was, and yet they manage to make it really tense to watch.

I knew there was a thread about Chernobyl someplace around here...
I've heard some good things about it too, so it's on my watch-it-sometime list. But I came across this. The first 15 minutes is the most interesting, but the entire thing has it's holy firetruck moments.
It's by a guy who lived in Kiev (60 miles South of Chernobyl) during the incident that he thinks should have been included.
When the radio starts playing classical music you know something bad happened, lol...
