For me it was when Phil Coulson dropped through the portal to Maveth in the third season episode Closure. I am not sure why, but it just did. I can assume it was because it kinda came out of left field for Gideon and that HYDRA agent.
I am not sure why for certain, but I get a chuckle every time.

That is one of my favorite scenes in the entire show. I remember gasping out loud the first time I saw it, caught me totally off guard. I was NOT expecting that! |

You laughed (I laughed, we ALL laughed) at the absurdity of the usually "good", levelheaded, cunning and intelligent character going out of his mind to perform a superior act of stupidity that is sooo far out of left field the viewer is left blinking at the TV screen like, "yeah, why the f*** not jump out of that QJ like a madman?" The writers were good. They wanted us to laugh at the scene. No way would the viewers find that scene so funny unless we were meant to because the episode is so dire and serious. It was the best example of dark comedy in the who show so far. My friends of the Level 7 Access podcast spent 20 whole minutes on the hilarity, physics, circumstances, and total allusionary aspects of that scene (because to them Coulson looked sort of like the picture on a certain tarot card and they wondered if that was intentional). |
