Does the new season start with a recap/review of the first season at all? Its been a while since I watched it, and don't really remember all that happened. I'm sure that a quick refresher would bring back the main story line though. If not, I may have to review s1 first.

No they sort of jump right in. There isn't a ton that you'd need to remember/know about season 1 though. As long as you remember who Danny, Davos and Colleen are you're fine I think. There are some appearances by other Netflix Marvel people but they are self explanatory within season 2.
Honestly, there is more from Defenders that carries over if anything, but this season could stand just about on its own.

I may jump right into it then, although I might review Defenders a bit. I actually liked it more than most of the other Marvel TV fare, aside from AoS of course.

That's not to say there aren't continuations of themes in season 2 or call backs, but I don't think there's anything beyond the basics of knowing the two-line backstory of each character. Joy and Ward are in it a lot as well. So I guess it wouldn't hurt to re-watch season 1 or skim it but I don't think it's necessary. And since I think season 2 is quite a bit better than season 1, rewatching season 1 could actually steal some of your enthusiasm. I feel like when I started the 1st episode of S2 it started out with recap (and gave me the option to "skip recap"). Annnnnddddd....looking at Netflix now (shh... don't tell any of my coworkers)... in the "Trailers & More" section for Iron fist there is a "Marvel's Iron Fist: Season 1 (Recap)"
