Finally finished S2 and I got to say, the season did turn out to be somewhat enjoyable, albeit solely thanks to its amazing villains. I was really pissed back in S1, when they all but benched Mariah (and Shades) in favour of Diamondback, but mostly because that guy was such an inane caricature of a villain and his "schemes" turned him into what I can only describe as a walking plothole. Now, however, Mariah coming into her own as a full-blown gangster was well worth the wait and was without a doubt the most engaging part of the season. Add to that Shades' own journey with and ultimately away from her, and you got yourself a pair of villains that could very well carry the season on their own. The writers went even further, though, with Bushmaster's obsessive revenge plan against Mariah Dillard - Stokes, Mariah Stokes - and imo managed to shift the audiences' sympathies between the different parties quite excellently.
In that regard, the season worked perfectly well for me. As some kind of Breaking Bad sh*t, Harlem style. What did not work for me, though, and probably never will work, was Luke Cage himself. Honestly, after a while I found myself fast forwarding scenes with him. I actually looked it up and he has the least screentime in his own show of all the four Defenders and yet I could still do with less.
As to the episode featuring Danny: As far as I understand it, the characters are basically best pals in the comics, right? But imo there's just no chemistry there. Don't know if it's because Finn Jones seems so miscast in the role or what's the problem, but for me that ep was basically boring meets boringer.
But, hey, as least Misty became a better cop! And all it took was her superior being killed. And they even have her running the precinct now, because... why the hell not?
As to the season finale, I actually kind of wished I had stopped watching after episode 12, because the last episode seemed just so entirely forced and out of left field. Luke suddenly snapping bones left and right and continuing to broker deals with the different crime syndicates even after pushing them back out of Harlem? Refusing to see Claire? Tilda kicking Alex out into the streets, then actually having the galls to look shocked when he gets murdered? All that only for her to turn into a stone cold killer herself who apparently can't wait to take over mummy's crime empire? Misty's ridiculous hair-do? Gimme a break!
Just glad that at least Shades and Bushmaster survived, because they were certainly two of the highlights of this season.
