Am I missing something? This is a 20 year old story. It was a big scandal back then, concluding with McDonalds holding a Monopoly game to redistribute the stolen prizes. (I think it was a Monopoly game.) Note their games have been restructured now to avoid this problem. The new McDonald story is getting a Big Mac 50th Anniversary coin with the purchase of said sandwich. It is then redeemable for a Big Mac. I was thinking about collecting a set, but don't care for Big Macs, so if someone wants to send me their coin(s), let me know...

I just thought it was a fun article to read. It mentions that a lot of people forgot about the McDonald's scandal because of 9/11. I'm not sure if the author had a reason to write this when they did.

I thought that it was an interesting article, and the article was clear that it was not a recent event. I spent part of the time reading it thinking about what a director like David O. Russell might do with this story.
A couple of grocery stores around me occasionally have Monopoly promotions. I even won a free 8 oz. can of tomato sauce earlier this year. I swear that I received it honestly without having to kick back two of the ounces to someone.

I'm not sure people (*cough* over 40 *cough*) would have forgotten about it. It really did have legs while McDonald's tried to tap dance around why their game security was so lax, and the media was having a grand time outing all of the guy's relatives and friends who benefited. If you were say, ten or less, I could see it being forgotten, since you weren't actively playing the game. A couple of grocery stores around me occasionally have Monopoly promotions. I even won a free 8 oz. can of tomato sauce earlier this year. I swear that I received it honestly without having to kick back two of the ounces to someone. Yeah, Safeway stores. (Safeway, Albertsons, Jewel... I think there's three or four others.) They own a significant number of grocery stores, so the odds of winning one of the high value prizes is like winning a (6 number) lottery. Oh, in total I won 6 cans of tomato sauce. It's a real convenient brazing liquid when I have nothing else. Instant won about $25 worth of stuff. I know others who actually, like, win cash prizes, but I'm not one of them...

Apparently, I was far from the only person who thought that this story could be turned into a film. Since the article's publication, there has been a bidding war for who gets to make it. I was wrong about David O. Russell. Ben Affleck is set to direct Matt Damon in the lead. Of course, there is plenty of time for details to change or for this to fall through. Article on the possible film
