I finally watched the movie yesterday and I have to say that I utterly loved it!
Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence deliver amazing performances throughout and while Jennifer proves once again why she won an Oscar, this movie really makes you want to see Chris try his hands on some heavier roles in the future and not just one summer blockbuster after the other. The story pushes his character into some dark places where you can't help but feel for him and wonder how you would react in his situation. There's just no right answer here and Chris portrays his character's dilemma perfectly!
The special effects throughout the movie are spectacular and really made me regret not seeing this one on the big screen. As a big sci-fi fan it was a real treat to finally see another entry in the genre that's not Star Wars or Star Trek and also doesn't follow the recent trend of portraying only dark, dystopian versions of the future. (Looking at you, Interstellar and Elysium!)
Passengers is certainly not as deep and philosophical as Arrival, or an action-packed gag-reel like GotG, but it maintains a good balance between lightheartedness and seriousness whenever the plot demands it. The narrative is simplistic enough, without ever feeling boring or forced and the two main actors manage to deliver in every scene, which is all the more important, given the laser focus on their characters.
Bottom line:
If you're into sci-fi at all or enjoy seeing Chris and/or Jennifer on your screen, go watch Passengers. You won't regret it!
