We all know Thanos wanted to bring balance back to the Universe by literally wiping out half it's population. Well there's this villain currently on The Flash's season 4 named Clifford "The Thinker" DeVoe. He wants to bring back some kind of balance to Earth to which he calls "The Enlightenment." Rather than wiping out half the population, he wants to literally make humanity dumb due to them feeling like they are using tech for evil.

I watched the episode yesterday and his argument was so entirely ridiculous! People have been killing each other with sticks and stone since forever, so getting rid of technology won't just bring about world peace. Plus, his counterargument to Marlize pointing out that life expectancy increased, was that more and more children would have to face poverty and famine? Yeah, because back in the good old days, before advanced agriculture and ways of storing food long-term, everyone was wealthy with always plenty to eat. Uh-huh. Well, I guess the list of villains in fiction who wanted to achieve "good" things, only with horrible methods is a very long one. You could even add Ultron here, I suppose, or Hydra for that matter. I'm just glad that, contrary to what your thread title had me initially believe, DeVoe isn't actually trying to wipe out half of humanity as well. Considering how he was going on about limited resources, it could have been an option, too.
