And this week *again*, we witness the march toward the destruction of the Earth...
The team is fragmented into two, the first with FitzSimmons and Yo-Yo at the Chamber, the other half successfully rescues Coulson and Talbot...
The prolog begins in Herefordshire, England. England was the closer spot?
Yo-Yo: Don't make me the third wheel guys.
And jumps out of the back of the plane. What's with the MCU and people jumping out the back of planes? Is there anyone in the MCU who hasn't jumped out of the back of a plane? (That was a sarcastic question. Please, no lists of MCU characters that didn't jump out of a plane...)
Cut to the forest where Coulson and Talbot teleported to. Let me say that I've never seen a forest quite like that. Trees, with nothing between them? Have the writers ever been to a real forest? Was the scene in the snow because the snow covered up the sound stage floor?
Coulson: For what it's worth, I'm sorry we didn't find you sooner.
Talbot: I was trying to hold out Phil. Where were you?
Coulson: We were in the future.
Talbot (laughing): You're in the future. What you guys live in some fifth dimension freak show?
Coulson: I'd say that's a relatively accurate desctiption of our day to day life.
Yep. And no one's gonna believe you Phil. And Ruby makes a sound teleporting in. Just as Ruby is going to kill Coulson and Talbot, the Team shows up. I guess Robin's drawing was good enough...
Coulson (to May): How did you find us?
May: Robin.
Coulson: That's a little bit like cheating, don't you think?
May (a little disgusted): Keep moving...
So Daisy beats Ruby, Hale shoots Deke, Hale saves Ruby, Hale looks disappointed, Ruby's not happy. I think that sums up the rest of the forest scene...
Semi-non-sequitur:
Did anyone notice the commercial for "The Crossing"?
Woman: We're from another time.
Man: That's not possible.
Haven't they been watching the show???
Piper finally shows up with a meal for Fitz, and frees Mack. The code to the door was is 62882. Meaning? I can't believe the writers would put in a random number...
(It's a zip code in Illinois, somewhat close to St. Louis...)
Meanwhile, the three invincibles arrive at a chain-link fence with a padlocked gate. You'd think security would be better at an Evil Hydra facility. Yo-Yo breaks the padlock.
Fitz: Wow. Looks like getting your arms chopped off isn't all bad. (Gets dirty looks from Yo-Yo and Jemma.) There... Well... Yeah, as bad, obviously it's bad, it's really bad getting your arms chopped off, but maybe there is a silver lining...
Jemma (saving Fitz): Well, if we're done enjoying this day in the country, we have a job to do.
Fitz: After you, better-half.
Back to the other half of the team, and Daisy argues with Deke until Deke starts coughing up blood. Hello? Daisy? He's got a bullet in his chest, and you're arguing with him?
Ruby is not happy with Mama, and is sent to her room. What's with Hale and taking away bedroom privileges? At least she didn't take all of Ruby's furniture, but taking her Quake poster was low... Quite possibly as bad as taking Coulson's Captain Crunch...
You can add meatball surgery to Mack's CV. For some reason, I'm waiting for Mack to say, "I'm getting too old for this shi..." Mack and Piper are in surgeon gown and cap, but no masks, and Mack's beard is exposed. They are doing surgery by the book. And I mean by the book. Or the tablet, as the case might be.
Piper: You'll have to cut through the wound so we can see what we're doing.
Mack: What about anesthesia?
Piper: Well, he's already unconscious, and I haven't read that chapter yet, so we'll just figure it out as we go.
Oh yeah. That's what I want to hear from my surgical team. Hell, it kinda freaked me out when my surgeon initialed the side of my body they had to cut open with a sharpie...
Talbot: So this kid's from the future.
Coulson: Yeah. And in that future, Earth is gone, and humanity is enslaved by alien overlords.
Talbot (laughing): Alien over... I should have stayed in my cell. You're telling me we got our asses handed to us by little green men?
Coulson: Big. And blue. But they didn't crack the world apart. They said it was Daisy.
Talbot: And you're still sending her on missions.
Coulson: I need her leading missions. I have an old injury acting up. Not sure what my time table is exactly.
Talbot: Oh, for the love of flapjacks. Do you ever have any good news?
Coulson: There's a young inhuman who's seen a better future. We're working toward that.
BUT YOU HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING TO CHANGE IT YET! And then, a long but important exposition...
May: That's not the conversation we're having right now.
Coulson: Oh, then what is the conversation we're having right now?
May: Oh, the one where you explain all the stupid decisions you've been making lately.
Coulson: That's rather specific.
May: Giving yourself up to Hale? Wasn't a...
Coulson: She was about to blow up the Zephyr. What did you want me to do?
May: I don't know. Stall her long enough for me to get to the cockpit. You hold on while I throw the plane into a vertical dive. Maybe it knocks out Creel long...
Coulson: You want to get to a point?
May: The point is, you didn't even try. You just rolled over without a fight.
Coulson: I did what I thought was best and it got results. We rescued Talbot and learned about Hale's agenda.
May: Yeah, and nearly lost Deke in the process.
Coulson: He should have listened to Daisy.
May: Well maybe Daisy shouldn't have been put in the position in the first place.
Coulson: You don't think she should lead?
May: Uh-uh. I didn't say that. But she does need time, she's questioning herself...
Coulson: I question myself every day.
May (interrupting): Let me speak. All Daisy could think about was getting you back. She's not ready for your job Phil.
Coulson: She has to be. My time is running out.
May: Because you're being irresponsible. You said you weren't in a hurry to die, but you're not acting like it.
Coulson: So this isn't so much about my stupidity, as it is about me dying.
May: Seems like one thing led to the other.
Coulson: You realize this isn't easy for me. But I've accepted it.
May: Which is the problem.
Coulson: Maybe I'm reckless, but if this is the end, better to go out doing something that matters.
May: No. You don't get to make that decision alone. That decision is made with the people who love you.
Coulson: May...
May: And that's me. I love you. (Insert of Coulson looking stupid.) Thought that would shut you up. (May walks away.)
Ah, Phil. You didn't see this coming?
And the next scene, we find Strucker has figured out the chamber, and another piece in the destruction of Earth falls into place.
Back to FitzSimmons/YoYo. What the heck? They sure do waste a lot of time looking things over and trying to figure out what it was designed for rather than blowing stuff up. They know they're on the clock, and it won't take long for them to be found. Later Fitz is breaking something with a hammer. Huh? BLOW IT UP AND GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE! Did they use all their explosives in the diversion?
And what was the point of Yo-Yo breaking the door mechanism on the inside? She needed to break the door mechanism on the OUTSIDE. And she finally tells someone that Yo-Yo(future) told her Coulson has to die. It's about time, but why wait until they're in a secret Evil Hydra facility?
Ruby: You're my one weakness mom!
Hale! You're being played by Ruby! That's what happens when you let your hair down! You would think someone from Hydra would know what happens to a weakness, right?
Back to the surgical theater...
(Vital sign monitor alarms go off)
Mack: What do we do?
Piper: We need to find the source of the bleeding.
Mack: Bullet's in there. Must have nicked an artery. Alright, step 2.
Piper (reading from tablet): You have to clamp the artery before his blood pressure drops any more.
Mack (putting his hand into Deke's chest): Did not think I'd be doing this today...
Yeah, this is how mechanics do surgery. Of course, Deke had to wake up with Mack's hand in his chest. I'll bet that was pleasant.
And if you were recording on a DVR, the show would end.... here, if you got the special report broadcast.
Yoyo/Ivanov. They may have met, but I don't remember it. How did Ivanov know Yo-Yo? "Who's superior now?" Then Ivanov's parts twitch. Mafe me laugh, though I can't quite figure out how Ivanov got dismembered...
And about Ivanov controlling the robots. How many times has this been done now? Star Wars, Episode 1. The Avengers. I, Robot... Kill the big bad, and all the little bads die? You'd think they'd be designed with a bit more resilience.
The scene after Deke's surgery was great. Too bad Daisy wasn't listening. And of course the solution, was give Deke more drugs. (I've been on drugs where you just didn't give a damn about anything. (They were doing a biopsy, so it was doctor legit, but man it was good stuff.) They only used half the syringe. I asked for the other half in a doggy bag, but they wouldn't do it. Pity.)
DekeQuake. Nope. DaisyDeke's. Sounds more familiar, so that might work. They'll just need a big orange Charger...
And the last scene.
Fitz: We don't have a choice. Never did.
Yeah, you did. But instead you guys sat around talking about it, instead of running away. As soon as those robots dropped, I would have been out the back door.
About the Epilogue. A poor decision on Daisy's part. Did she clear the phone thing with Coulson? I really hate they installed a back-door into Talbot. Another thing Hale has to die for. Best part of the Daisy/Talbot interaction was having Talbot call an LMD a "Skin Job"...
Next week's ep is the final one before Infinity War and AoS eclipse. If Strucker activates the chamber next week, we're in the right timeline for all hell to break loose when Thanos comes to town. If I'm not mistaken, the Confederacy has to arrive before that, to "save humanity". (Much of this may depend on how the movie transpires. There may be some time between the start of the movie, and when Thanos invades Earth, which may stretch things out a bit in the AoS timeline.)
I just wonder what will happen when Franklin Hall gets absorbed into Ruby. I'll bet that doesn't turn out okay. I wonder if Quinn is still in there too. Ruby might get a bit crowded...
Five more episodes to save the Earth.
And we better hear the word "Renewed" soon...
