And apparently, so will be Ronan the Accuser. Let's keep in mind, though, that Captain Marvel will be a prequel movie. Sooo... who wants to bet that they make Coulson a Skrull imposter?

Seeing this all over social media and (maybe it's just what I've seen) but I worry they're messaging this wrong. Most headlines make it sound like Coulson rejoins the Avengers in some way rather than (I assume) the story just taking place before Avengers. Sets up a lot of fans making the wrong assumption and being disappointed.

Well at least this proves that the MCU is still all connected, even though this is a prequel.

Well at least this proves that the MCU is still all connected, even though this is a prequel. Does it, though? Sure, it proves that TPTB haven't entirely forgotten that Coulson exists, but if the movie is truly set in the 90's - as I've read - and that is the only time period we'll see Coulson in, then that doesn't connect the current MCU any more than his past appearances in Thor, Iron Man and The Avengers did. HOWEVER, his appearance in this movie could serve as a way to foreshadow his reappearance in the current MCU time, whether that happens at the end of the Captain Marvel movie itself (post-credit scene, anyone? ) or in any future instalment of the franchise. One recurring argument in the discussion about Coulson's possible reappearance in the movies has been that it might seem pretty much out of left field - especially for those not following AoS - and would require some setting up. Thereby it would have taken time and focus away from the main characters and story of whatever movie he would have appeared in, thus making it happening less realistic in the first place. But making a younger Coulson an active character in Captain Marvel would be a great set-up for current Coulson to show up again as well, providing, of course, that AoS hasn't killed him off by then.

I'm getting a little "caseyrook-ish" over this news - or at least how it's being spun on social media.
It's great news in general of course and given that we've been told Captain Marvel is at least partially taking place in the past it makes perfect sense and doesn't contradict anything other than the trolls that like to go around trumpeting "MCU is only the films" etc.
However, I keep seeing references about Coulson being "back from the dead" etc. Could be me just being over-sensitive and perhaps too clever for my own good (hence the reference to caseyrook), but I'm worried this will get blown up too much.
At this time, my official expectation is still that Captain Marvel will be similar to Captain America: The First Avenger in that most of it will take place in the past and it will somehow end with our hero in the "present". i.e. Danvers is a top pilot, somehow meets a Kree scout of some kind (Mar-Vell or another character in that role), gets powers etc. all in the past. Then somehow gets moth-balled or goes off Earth or something so that she can return to the MCU and be in other films.
So with Coulson, I expect him to be a part of the past sequences which makes perfect sense since he was involved with Stark, Thor, Cap etc. (Though yes I expect the "past" in CM will be well before 2008.) I do not expect Coulson to appear in any of the scenes happening "now" in the film but of course that's possible and would be awesome.
I guess my worry is that the hype will be so much that I will end up expecting Coulson to basically be a co-star in the film and I'll be sitting staring at a blank screen while they're sweeping up popcorn waiting for the post-post-post-credits scene where Coulson is introducing Danvers to Stark or something.
