S P O I L E R S
The PhantasticGeek podcast hosts have a theory and when I heard it, I wanted to scream at them.
They theorized that Clark and Ming Na may have asked off the show after this season (if it comes back) which is why Coulson is dying and told May that they need "new blood" in SHIELD. They cited how it felt like emotion of Coulson and Daisy felt more like the emotion of Chloe and Clark during their 'talk'.
I picked up on that raw emotion too, but I CAN NOT see *Clark* asking off. Ming Na, I can see *maybe*, but not Clark.
Am I just not being able to think about this objectively and this is possible? Or do you think it's just as unlikely I think it is?

Can't really speak for the two. What I do know is, though, that David Tennant wanted nothing more than to play The Doctor on Doctor Who ever since he was a kid. Yet after three seasons and a couple of Holiday specials, he was the one who wanted to leave.
Sometimes actors just want to move on, even if they do love something.

What gets me about this theory is that if you listen to the cast, *they are a family*. The way they speak about each other snd their cast as a whole is what makes me think those two wouldn't ask off.

If this were true, my guess is that the producers would have announced that this is the final season of the show. I do not see the show continuing without Coulson/Clark Gregg.
I agree with ayanami that actors sometimes want to move on to something different, and I can also see Ming-Na Wen wanting to leave the show because of her injury. When Enoch was suggesting that May might want to take up another career, I feared that it was a hint that Ming-Na's injury was the equivalent of an athlete having a career-ending injury rather than a season-ending injury. If this were the case, I would suspect that there would have been fewer May action scenes, although I usually do not pay much attention to what is done by the actor and what is done by a stunt person.
Personally, I would still want to see May even if she cannot participate in action scenes as much as before. She is still compelling as a check on Coulson and as a team mom, even if she is a "no phone, no TV, 7:30 curfew kind of mom." If the pain is too much, I would understand.

Yes, that's a good point about what Enoch said, but we saw in the next episode, 5x08, that May has a role on the team even if she isn't the "Specialist". I forgot to mention the Podcasters also cited the ages of both Clark's daughter and Ming Na's kids as possible reasons that they'd want off. This makes me feel like it *might* be a small bit possible for *her* to ask off, however, we know from interviews and social media that Stella Gregg is on-set almost as much as her father, so I don't know if that would honestly be a reason he would ask off.
