Am I a bad, bad, person if I say that of all the ST shows my *least* favorite is DS9? I can't really name what it is, there's just something about it that just doesn't *catch* me like TNG or ENT (yep, I mean 'Enterprise'). That doesn't stop me from appreciating DS9's place in the ST world or the important role it plays as a whole, though! It's a good thing I already think you're cool... /I kid. I kid. Quite a few of my friends are Voyager fans. One of my roommates at university and I had an ongoing rivalry regarding DS9 and VOY. Lately, I've been more of a Enterprise fan than a TNG fan, so I'd be curled up in a corner reading a book somewhere while a DS9-vs-VOY fight is going on.

Archer, but that could be my bias due to the actor.

Benjamin Sisko was my favorite Captain. He's bolder than the rest.

I think Archer had the most wasted potential. I really liked Enterprise, but I had hoped that it would focus more on the exploration aspect. Instead, it seemed to get bogged down in the intrigue. I've actually researched why many fans dislike Archer/Enterprise as a whole (because 'Enterprise' is my second favorite series) and one constant reason was the hatred of the Temporal Cold War/Xindi arcs. I also came across many interviews and articles that said that Brannon Braga had the idea for both as early as the later seasons of TNG but they weren't done until 'Enterprise' because there was no point in any of the preceding shows where these arcs would fit with the direction/tone of each respective show. As a prequel, I do see where both arcs somewhat distance themselves from the rest of the ST canon because neither are referenced or mentioned by the subsequent series (obviously). I wonder what it would have been like if Voyager has done the Xindi arc or DS9 had the Temporal Cold War arc... Perhaps, 'Enterprise' would've gotten that magic 7th season... Those are good points and I think they may have worked better in the series you mentioned. I really didn't care for the Xindi and I think DS9 may have been better served with a temporal Cold War plot over the many trips to the Mirror Universe. The Mirror Universe episodes were my least favorite in DS9 (though, ironically, I liked the Enterprise Mirror episode well enough). It always felt as though DS9 were trying too hard to keep things so similar, but missed opportunities. For one thing, we discover that in our universe Bashir was genetically enhanced. Since those procedures wouldn't have been available to humans in the Mirror universe, wouldn't the Bashir in that universe have been less far less clever? I also thought they missed an opportunity when they killed off the Mirror Universe Jadzia. I know that Terry Farrell had not wanted to be killed off, but they didn't think they had a choice. If anything could have salvaged those episodes for me, it would have been to show MU Jadzia, alive and well. It may have been asking too much to have her crossover to the DS9 Universe and pop up once or twice again, maybe even finding a happier ending in the finale.

Archer, but that could be my bias due to the actor. He's from St. Louis. Like me. So I may be the teensiest bit biased too.

...*facepalm* I know that! My brain had a dumb moment... So why wasn't he in your poll? The thing I had against Janeway was how she created conflicts all over as she made her way through the Delta Quadrant, then declared that any race that didn't welcome Voyager with open arms was a bunch of bullies.

My favorite Captain is Picard. However, I feel like Archer is the *best* Captain. Sacrilege, I know. Jean Luc Picard. Without a doubt. He is the ultimate agent, I mean officer, in the whole history of Star Trek. He listens, he is thoughtfull, he full of adventure, he has the spirit to seek out new lives and new civilizations and to go beyond. He also has enormous self control. He allows for nice senior officer meetings so he can carefully take in all options, strategies, problems, etc before make a decision. He read books about advanced string theories on his vacation. He easily defends Data's androitic rights. He is an expert on everything. And he is good buddies with Q.
