5x07 “Together Or Not At All”
Written By: Matt Owens
Directed By: Brad Turner
Act 1
We open immediately where we ended before the tag scene last week with Daisy, Fitz, and Simmons making their escape from the arena. Fitz enters the room with the towels first, followed by Simmons who is helping Daisy walk. Simmons wants to find new clothes. Daisy wants to know the plan. Fitz says, “I have a ship. We get there, then comes the plan.”
As he talks he is rummaging through bins and finds Jemma clothes and hands them to her. He then goes to Daisy concerned about her head. She’ll know how her head is when the ringing stops. As Fitz tightens the bandage around her forearm, she chastises him about his whole “Fight to the Death” plan and asks, “Really?” Fitz responds that he needed to make a splashy entrance. She asks why he didn’t jump in the octagon himself and he says it wouldn’t be fair because he does push-ups in the double digits now.
Jemma is done changing clothes and in the process of getting the make-up off (Thank Fitzing God she got real-people clothes and got the make-up off) and tells him he has no idea how good it is to see him and that it seems impossible that he’s here with a spaceship.
Fitz: “Nothing is impossible anymore.”
Simmons: “Full story later.”
Fitz: “There will be pints.”
Simmons: “There will be gin.”
At that moment, Simmons experiences excruciating pain in her ear and we hear that loud, ringing tone. She begins to collapse but he catches her. Daisy helps him put her on the bench and diagnoses the problem as them messing with her implant. Fitz asks what they do, and Daisy replies simply, “Get it out.” Fitz searches for something for that endeavor and finds (medial forceps?) and tells her this is gonna hurt. He then puts them through her ear canal.
In the hallway, a Kree walks by and notices the noise. Daisy is quick to react…only her powers are inhibited. She goes to reach for the ICER but the Kree gets to it first. They then end up fighting as Fitz works to get the thing out of Jemma’s ear. Daisy ends the fight on the Kree’s back as she chokes him out. The fight finally ends as Fitz finally gets the thing out. Daisy astutely points out that they got to go.
A jump cut later, they enter a spacious hallway with a large window looking out at Fitz’s ship. Fitz is about to say they just need to get past…and the ship explodes. Daisy: “Don’t tell me that was…”
Fitz: “Out way out.”
He stands there slack jawed as the women start to run away. Jemma taps him on the shoulder to get him moving.
Cue Title Card
Kasius is shuddering as he looks at in the mirror while the main black servitor lady treats it. He asks if it’s noticeable. Faulnok answers that it should be. “Scars are badges of honor for the victor.” He then says that Kasius’s priorities are misplaced and asks for news about the Destroyer.
Kasius answers that she has no powers, no ship, and nowhere to run. He tells Faulnok to have patience. Faulnok replies that patience is a feeble cover for inaction. He then turns to (?) and commands him to double the guard and sweep for by floor. Kasius tells him his expertise is appreciated but he has the matter under control. There is system in place that has served him well and Sinara will end this inconvenience. He then brings up her fight in the arena and calls her his ‘best’.
Unimpressed, Faulnok says she’s proven inadequate. He then identifies his body guard, Maston-Dar and says he’ll make quick work of this. Maston-Dar pulls out curved, switchblade knifes? Guys, I’m terrible with weapons. He then looks to Faulnok and asks for terran weapons.
Faulnok goes to Sinara and asks her for any human weaponry they possess because Maston finds it unfair to hunt primitives with anything but their own primitive armaments. She looks to Kasius and he nods. Sinara is not happy as she leaves.
Maston is told to show them how they spill blood and to find the girl in the process. The brothers exchange looks as Faulnok leaves too.
At the Exchange, Tess is being zipped into a body bag and carried away as the Vicar informs the humans that this is the price of hiding Inhumans and that they’ll end up dead if they continue to keep their mouths shut.
Behind him and a metal window, Coulson and Mack are listening in. Coulson (who maybe got a haircut possibly? And don’t worry, no more Director jokes) says this is bigger than a renewal, it’s a direct threat. Mack says these people would give them up in a heartbeat if it’ll save their own lives.
Coulson observes that these Kree may be cruel but they’re not stupid. It’s time for them for them to make a move because it won’t be long before the Kree follow the trail of bodies right to them. They leave.
In his den, Kasius is pacing a hallway. He feels his cheek and looks at his fingers for blood. Sinara appears and he gets excited. “Finally! There’s work to be done.” She stares daggers at him. He tells her to let Faulnok play General to keep him satiated as he’s the gatekeeper to Kasius’s father and to their freedom.
Sinara picks up on once key word and asks, “Our?” He responds by telling her not to be dramatic. She continues, “He gives the orders now, no?”
She starts to walk past him, and he turns around and walks backwards to face her as she moves. He claims she’s resentful because he let his brother throw her in the crater and points out how she looks no worse for wear and held her own against the Destroyer as he knew she would. Breathing heavily when he gets to the end, he blocks her and tells her her strength has never let him down. He then asks her to lend it to her once again and brings up that they’re so close to freedom from this place, restored to glory together.
She tells him his begging is repulsive. He tells her he’s imploring her to think, to use reason, for he must appease his brother and cannot allow him to steal his award. He says he’ll entertain his brother while they let his man chase her tail (Daisy’s?) while Sinara figures out what’s in her head. “Where will she go?”
Meanwhile, the escaping agents round a corner and get on a lift after Daisy uses the control panel. Jemma is weak and is leaning and holding onto the railing. Daisy tells them the last time she saw YoYo and the others, they were at a salvage yard on one of the upper floors. Jemma feels somewhere between motion sick and…the elevator halts as Maston cuts the wires in a panel. This situation is not helping Jemma. They look for an escape and Daisy notices the panel in the corner of the ceiling. They start to climb there as Jemma remarks that she’s happy to not be just standing still and on the run. Fitz adds, “Together” as he lifts Daisy up.
On the planet’s surface, May is on the making her way around on her leg which is still in very bad shape. She sits down behind a rock face and hears a roach behind her. It jumps down and starts to approach her, but it is stabbed through the neck by Enoch in Kree disguise.
Enoch tells her, “Hello!” (He shouts because it’s loud.) May looks surprised until he changes his skin color back to his regular form. He tells her that’s the third Vrellnexian he’s eliminated in pursuit of her, not to toot his own horn as ‘you’ would say. May wouldn’t say that and asks who he is. He tells her is Enoch and that Fitz sent him. She seems surprised by this news and then asks how he wasn’t eaten by those things. Enoch answers that they have no interest in him because he has no tender insides for them to extract.
“I thought Fitz was done building robots,” May growls.
Enoch corrects her by saying he could complete a captcha and gives the same spiel about his species and planet that he gave in 5x05. He tells her he is there to aid her, who will save humanity. May isn’t interested until he starts to name off the team: “Melinda May, Jemma Simmons, Phillip J. Coulson.”
That last name catches her interest and she has him repeat it. He does and then she limps over and grabs his coat ready to murder him after realizing he’s the son a bitch from the diner that got him into this whole mess. Her leg is in bad shape though and Enoch gently takes her arms to support her as he tells her he is there to get her out of this whole mess.
Enoch is then concerned about her injury. She tells him she’s managing, and he asks if she’s diagnosed herself. She tells him the full diagnosis and he says she should by all accounts not be standing. Enoch suggests she change her career after she tells him she’s a fighter, not a doctor.
A sound in the distance alerts Enoch to an incoming gravity storm and May notices that the roaches are going away from her and Enoch. She wonders if they’re scared of the gravity storm or Enoch. Enoch answers that they ride the gravity storms and he doesn’t think they’re moving away from him. He thinks they’re afraid of something else.
Just then he is caught by a hook thing that pulls him away. May (tries to) run in the opposite direction but is swept up in a gravity storm and caught by another hook thing wielded by a figure with a covered face who is secured into the ground.
On whatever level, Maston-Dar slits the throat (painting the wall with blood!) of a man who had the misfortune of pushing a cart of fruit past him when he was investigating the disappearance of the three from the elevator because he did not answer the question, “Where is the Destroyer?” He would have killed the woman too, but he notices the panel opened on the ceiling.
In Grill’s office, Coulson, Mack, and Elena are talking about how the Kree are killing people, innocent people. Flint points out that they are doing it while on the hunt for him. Mack and Elena tell him they are not going to let anything happen to him.
Elena tells Coulson they need to make a move against the blue-bloods, but Coulson shoots that idea down with Daisy and Simmons still captive. The three grown-ups talk, with Coulson saying they need to leave the Lighthouse, and the three debating on saving Jemma and Daisy or not (they decide against it, instead opting to regroup and come back for them more prepared, per Mack’s suggestion) while Flint realizes that he hasn’t seen Tess in a while.
He asks where she is, but they don’t notice as they’re talking about where they’d go. Coulson says they’d go to the point at the end of this giant question mark: the surface. Flint asks louder and they all look at him and then at each other. The looks on their faces is all Flint needs to see to know the answer. Mack tells him he’s sorry. Flint leaves. Elena starts to follow but Mack says he’s got this.
In Kasius’s den, Faulnok is taking terran rifles with bayonets off a table and holding them. Kasius joins him and says that Faulnok was always interested in the power behind a weapon, the ability to kill. He adds that the craftsmanship was what caught his eye. Faulnok writes that off as misplaced priorities. Kasius says that these tools from Earth seem like a good cross section of their areas of interest. Faulnok picks up and studies a pistol and then shoots, aiming for a pitcher on the table next to Kasius as he is saying firearms are fine for those that need the safety of distance.
That scares the sugar honey ice and tea out of Kasius who tenses up. Faulnok prefers a blade so he can feel the warm blood on his hands as the life drains from his adversary’s body (how does he feel about crushing someone’s chest with your robo-hand?).
They then get into a fight about their father and Kasius being seen as a disgrace.
Apparently, Kasius had been in a war where he was placed in charge of his own fleet without prior training. He had fought against their enemies as Faulnok did but lost a strategic outpost and 1000s of warriors lives after being put in an impossible situation. He had been cornered, outmanned, and overrun with 2 of his trusted generals’ dead at his feet and enemies closing in.
At this point Faulnok shoots the corner of a wall beside Kasius and chastises Kasius for running when he should have (for glory) drank the Odium, fought, and died like any of the Kasius family name would have rather than fleeing with his low-born subordinate.
Faulnok then wonders if its Sinara’s beauty or her ability to kill that Kasius admires.
This is when we find out that Sinara defended Kasius from his would-be attackers, saving his life, and that they were exiled for abandoning their posts. Sinara has been at his side ever since. Kasius then explains that, though Faulnok calls him weak, his strength comes from surrounding himself with loyalty.
Faulnok responds by saying that the only thing that runs deeper than the blood from Kasius’s fallen soldiers is the shame he brings on their family.
Faulnok: “You’re like this planet, brother—once full of promises and father’s hopes to be molded into something magnificent. And now…just a broken speck of dust confined to the darkest edge of the galaxy.” He then says he is eager for his man to find the Destroyer, so he can take leave of both. He hands Kasius the pistol. During all this, Kasius seldom made eye contact.
You guys can explain the look on Kasius’s face when Faulnok leaves because I can’t.
In an area with lots of pipes and machinery, Daisy, Jemma, and Fitz are walking through as part of their escape. Daisy finds out the pipes are hot and questions whether this is the spa floor. Jemma would kill for a hot shower and comfy bed because a spa sounds great.
After observing a pipe that is cold, a room that is using a lot of power, and a panel that shows they are tracking signs of airborne contaminants like mold, harmful chemicals carbon monoxide as part of an air filtration system, they (Fitz) realizes this must be the hub for life-support systems. Jemma says of course there’d be one since this is a giant vivarium for humans.
Fitz goes to open a sliding bulkhead and tells the other 2 that he thinks he knows how they are creating the artificial gravity for the station: Gravitonium! Jemma identifies it and says she hopes she’s wrong.
After she does, Maston-Dar bursts in and immediately goes a-shooting a machine gun. Fitz gets hit. Maston tells them to submit willingly or entertain him, those are their options. With Fitz hit, they raise their hands in surrender.
Act 2
They still have their hands up. Maston moves for a better shot. Daisy catches this and pushes Jemma out of the way towards Fitz. Those two take cover and Daisy charges Maston and they fight. The fight allows Fitz and Simmons to leave the room freely. After a few seconds, Maston (who had lost his machine gun) pulls out his curved knives but has lost Daisy in the steam created by a pipe getting hit by gunfire.
Daisy catches up to FitzSimmons and they enter a room, closing the door behind them. Daisy and Jemma are about to help Fitz when they see a back-lit mask in the dark (which is meant to look like an Iron Man mask in the dark, I think). They all look in fear, but Daisy goes to the person when they’re in full view and pushes them against a wall.
Deke is saying it’s a good thing he’s wearing a helmet when she takes his helmet off.
Daisy wants to know if he’s come to collect the bounty. He hasn’t, he’s come to save her ass. Daisy says she should kill him right now.
Fitz asks who the hell this guy is. Daisy tells him he works for Kasius. Deke starts to say he doesn’t work for Kasius, but stops to say sometimes he does, technically, but right now he is Team S.H.I.E.L.D. and salutes pathetically. Daisy remarks that him showing up here is convenient. He corrects her to say it’s mind-blowing that he escaped his room after Coulson welded the door shut. He had to crack a window and a lot of his personal valuables are now floating around space, “thanks very much, everybody.”
Daisy asks if this story about Coulson locking him up is supposed to make her feel better. Deke, now getting angry, says that they (he and Coulson) were working out their differences and that he doesn’t have time to get into this.
Fitz, being looked at by Jemma, asks if they can discuss this after they’re out of the line of fire. Deke likes that idea and says. “Yes, thank you…this guy.” Deke then rattles off a plan, but Daisy grabs his jacket and tells Fitz and Simmons this is the guy that sold her to Kasius.
Fitz and Simmons are both immediately like, so murder him then? Fitz says he’ll cut Deke’s throat open as he is helped up by Simmons. Simmons calls him a snake.
Deke calls himself a pragmatist and reminds Daisy he said he’d lead her to her friend. He points to Jemma and tells Daisy, “there she is.” Deke then rattles off his excuses for selling her out (she’d do something drastic and people wouldn’t die in the process) before telling Fitz he doesn’t look great. Fitz tells him thank you.
Simmons questions Deke just now happening to stumble upon them. He tells them that all the channels are buzzing with news of their escape. He just had to follow the dead bodies that led right to them. Once he finishes his sentence, there’s pounding on the door, and he declares that they are out of time. They need to follow him even if they don’t know he won’t lead them into another trap.
Back at Salvage, Flint is tossing rocks into a bucket. Mack joins him, and they begin to talk. Flint tells Mack he didn’t know Tess and he doesn’t know Flint. Mack says Flint is not the first person to tell Mack that. Mack isn’t there to tell Flint anything he doesn’t already know, he is just there if Flint needs him.
Flint says it’s not fair. Mack sits down and says it never is and then says he’s lost people too and it doesn’t get any easier. Flint says he thought Mack wasn’t gonna tell him something he didn’t already know. Flint says he should turn himself in to stop more people from dying. Mack says no, he has a gift now. He can help them, protect them. Flint says he couldn’t protect Tess, his parents, what happens if he can’t protect Mack either?
Mack is about to answer when there’s a knock on the door. He tells Flint to stay put.
Coulson comes out of the office with Grill’s gun drawn, followed by YoYo. He hears Daisy say she’d thought “they’d be here” from the other side of the door and unlatches the door. He asks how she escaped. She answers, “Clumsily” and they hug.
Fitz and Simmons appear behind her as she goes to hug Elena next and everyone is shocked to see Fitz. Coulson gives him a big hug too, along with Mack who calls him ‘Turbo’.
Mack wants to know how the hell Fitz got in the future. Fitz answers, “The long way.” Jemma says he needs medical attention, story time can wait as she helps Fitz onto a table. Mack says, “Well, not when those stories include time travel.”
Someone opens the door. Coulson immediately draws his gun once more and takes aim. Deke struts in and almost everyone in the room glares daggers at him. Mack asks how he got here and how he got out of his cage. Deke says he let himself out and thanks Mack for his concern.
Elena notes that the gang is all here except for…Coulson finishes the sentence with “May.” He looks at Fitz and Simmons and has Fitz confirm she’s been taken to the surface. (Fitz says “yeah” but doesn’t say he sent her up there…) Daisy is stunned to hear Coulson say May being on the surface is a good thing.
Before the conversation can continue, Jemma says they need alcohol for Fitz’s wound. Mack says he’ll see if Flint can find them some. He goes to the area behind the large cart where he left him, but Flint is gone. Mack knows what Flint is up to.
Wearing a hood, Flint goes to the Exchange and reveals himself to the Vicar.
Act 3
Holding his hands up, Flints tells the Vicar that too many people have died. The Vicar tells him that now the others won’t get a reward in kind with his reward of joining Kasius below. The Vicar cocks his head to his lackey and the lackey searches him, finding pockets full of rocks and pebbles, and then makes him kneel on his knees. The Vicar says it’s good he turned himself in.
Flint tells him he won’t let any more innocent people lose their lives for him and starts to manipulate the rocks and pebbles that the lackey left on the floor in front of him. They form one sharp rock and…WHAT IS WITH THIS SHOW AND EYES!?!?
Anyway…the Vicar falls face first on the floor dead (after he too just watched the rocks take shape and didn’t do anything, much like Grill) as people scramble to get the hell away from the crime scene.
Flint calmly gets up off his knees and tells the Vicar that that was for Tess. He looks at the Lackey as if they are about to fight, but Sinara knocks him out from behind. Lackey tells her he’ll alert command but Sinara says no, he’s bait.
A jump cut later, Daisy, Mack, and Coulson look into the Exchange from the hallway. Daisy asks what Flint’s power is and Mack tells her he can move rocks with his mind. Daisy asks how he is in a fight. Coulson answers, “Undisciplined, but I’m guessing not incompetent.” Mack observes that Flint is in over his head on this one, though. He adds, “We all might be, but it never stopped us before.”
Coulson tells Daisy, “They don’t know I have this” and pulls out Grill’s gun just enough to show her under his jacket.
Sinara pulls Flint off the floor and Daisy enters with her hands up telling her not to hurt the kid because she’s the one Sinara wants. Sinara tells her to get on her knees. Daisy does as she says to just take her and let him go. Sinara says she’ll take them both. Right after, Sinara is shot at by Coulson who took position while crouching at a table. He hits her twice (in each arm I’m 90% certain) and she falls. But he doesn’t move at all when continuing to fire in that same direction (can’t tell if he was firing on other Kree?) He’s stopped when Maston-Dar kicks him in the side and he’s sent into a pillar. Maston gets close to taking aim at him when he’s hit by Mack with a, you guessed it, a fire extinguisher! No seriously it is one but it’s obviously empty and very big.
Mack and Coulson go against Maston and Daisy goes and gets Flint and tells him that his power is cool. The fight is short lived as they were just biding time. They escape as Maston reins machine gun fire down in their direction. When they’re gone, Sinara surveys her GSW and heads in their direction.
Maston meets with her and says they were scrappy, let’s put an end to this. Sinara watches him walk away as if she’s already plotting his demise.
At Salvage, Deke is latching one exit as Flint, Daisy, Mack, and Coulson enter another. Mack asks if they’re all accounted for and Coulson says they are. Fitz says most of him is, anyway. Daisy tells them that Mr. and Mrs. Boba Fett will be here any minute. Jemma asks what they do now. Coulson answers that they escape via the Trawler. Deke asks, “Escape to where?” Coulson answers, “The surface. All signs have been pointing us there. The Kree won’t follow us there, and you *points to Deke* don’t have to follow us there, either.”
Deke tells Coulson that he already told him that he’s “in, to go out with you.” (Deke, I don’t think Phil swings that way). Elena says no one’s getting out if they get caught first.
Flint, tired of this arguing, begins to Earthbend rocks and boulders against the doors. He yells at them, “Less arguing, more figuring out what we’re going to do.”
Scene cuts to Maston and Sinara in the corridor. They can hear the boulders being set down to brace the door and Maston tries to shoulder check the door to know effect.
In Salvage, Flint is done, and Coulson says that ought to buy them some time.
In the hallway, Maston gets a shoulder mounted (air compressed?) gun and blows a hole in the wall. Coulson sees this and says, “Or not.” (Basically, the same joke as the battering ram from season 2).
Act 4
More holes are blown and almost everybody is startled, even Coulson. Mack takes Flint and chastises him for not staying put. Flint thought he said to use his powers to protect people. Mack tells him this isn’t his problem to fix. Flint says it is his problem since they are after him.
Daisy: “And me.”
Simmons: “And me.”
Elena doesn’t think they’ll be picky about who they kill. Maston reloads and goes at it again with the holes in the wall. Daisy says they can’t leave with this place surrounded.
Coulson: “Come on. A room full of secret agents, scientists, and superheroes. Someone give me something.”
Elena suggests standing their ground and fighting. Fitz asks with what? Rocks and rubbish?
Another hole is blown, and Flint says he can fight with rocks.
Elena asks how else they propose they get out. Deke answers they don’t go up, they go up. Coulson says there is no elevator, here. Deke says they make their own with the anti-grav buckle. Fitz is confused because it looks like a belt buckle and Simmons tells him what it is. Deke goes to the chute and says it leads to the drop bay under the Trawler. They can get to the airlock from there.
Simmons answers that they use the device to make a gravity well. Some are concerned about it working. Deke says it will and Coulson says it’s their best option.
Deke wants to go first to show them how it works but Coulson (and practically everyone) says, “No, no, no, no. no.” as Coulson pushes him out of the chute and Daisy tells him she’s not gonna let him use them as bait. Daisy takes the device and hands it to “Fitzsimmons.” Deke gets to go last.
Meanwhile, Sinara tells Maston he’s slow.
In the chute, Fitz says, “Once more unto the breach” and Jemma says “Allons-y” before they head up.
More holes are made. The device is dropped down. Coulson has YoYo go next. Blinky light things are put into the holes. As the blast gets ready to be revved up, Maston tells Sinara to stand back because he’ll handle them. When the wall is blasted, Maston falls through. Sinara killed him with her balls. Salvage is empty when they enter.
The group is gathered after everyone came up, including Deke who asks if they’re satisfied since he came up last. Jemma asks him if he’s sure they can’t follow him. He is.
Coulson addresses Deke and asks him if he’s ready to take the Trawler out. Deke looks at everyone around him and says, “What me? I’m not a pilot.” Daisy is annoyed and Deke heads to the ladder as he says he never said he was a Pilot and passes Coulson to climb the ladder. Coulson points to Flint and says, “Okay, what about you, Flint? Wasn’t Virgil giving you flying lessons?”
Flint answers that yeah, and he’s not bad but he’s not leaving with them. Mack is like, “What?” And tells him the whole station will kill him on sight. Flint replies that Mack told him to use his powers to protect people and they’re (the Lighthouse dwellers are) in this mess because of him He can’t just abandon them. He’s gonna figure out a way to get out of it. Mack then says, “Okay, we’re gonna have to come up with a plan then, aren’t we?” Flint, and the others, catch the ‘we’ part.
Mack reminds Flint that he told him he would be there if he needed him. Mack’s got him. Elena adds. “Me too.”
Coulson comes to Mack and says asks about what Mack said about never splitting up. Mack replies, “Yeah, I know, Sir, but I’m not leaving him behind.” He then tells Coulson that they’ll handle things here and tells him to get to the surface. Coulson tells him to be safe.
Elena and Daisy hug quickly and Daisy and Mack have a quick moment as they say good bye. The three then begin to leave but before Fitz gets on the Trawler he tells them to wait and tells them about the cache he left behind in the past. Mack and YoYo are happy to hear it…until Fitz tells them it’s on Level 3. (Not Level 7, Damn it!) Level 3 is infested with roaches.
Fitz gets annoyed and says he travelled through time and space to find them, he thinks they’re moving past that a little too quickly. Mack, the Turbo whisperer, says they wouldn’t expect anything less and thanks him.
In the Trawler, Coulson is in the Pilot’s seat with Daisy in the Co-Pilot’s seat as Mack and Elena climb down.
Coulson: “So, taking off is easy enough, docking is the hard part, and landing, that’s impossible on account these ships weren’t built weren’t built with landing gear."
Daisy: “So, you have no idea what you’re doing.”
Coulson: “I got a flying car. How different can it be?”
Deke’s face is priceless as he looks at Fitz and Simmons and Fitz and Simmons look away like Coulson just embarrassed them.
Coulson begins decoupling the ship. Everyone is lurched forward as the ship rumbles and Coulson tells everyone to hold on. The ship backs out of the bay easy enough and they are on their way.
Back in Kasius’s Den, Faulnok is sitting down laments about how troublesome it is to search for rats in a sewer with so many places to scurry away and hide. Sinara enters and Kasius asks what news she brings. She looks to Faulnok who says, “Out with it, girl.”
Sinara tells them that “they have escaped.” This is not good news for the brothers and Kasius asks to where they escaped. Sinara tells them, “To friends” and shows them the device that Coulson had recorded the radio messages on. Kasius says that is impossible and Faulnok is quick to say they are incompetent because the Destroyer escaped and willingly made for their land of exile.
Faulnok starts to order Sinara to ready a ship for Maston. Sinara is like, yeah about that…and tells them Maston is dead by her own hand. Kasius reacts as if he’s afraid how Faulnok will react.
Faulnok reacts by laughing and saying he underestimated her and her desire to climb the ranks since she held her own against the Destroyer and felled his own best warrior. He offers her Maston’s old job, saying Kasius confines her to a dungeon denying her the right to shine, as Kasius looks back and forth between them.
Sinara looks to Kasius as Kasius looks like he is afraid she will accept the offer. Faulnok gets closer to her saying he will “show you things Kasius could never.” Then he is stabbed in the back (with a rifle’s bayonet) by Kasius. Kasius says, “Sinara is not some object to be taken.”
Faulnok falls to the floor and we learn that their father sent Kasius on a suicide mission. Those 2 generals were dead because Sinara killed them for not allowing Kasius to flee the battlefield. Kasius says that Sinara said that the battlefield is not his place and he is not built for it and he agrees.
With the bloodshed left to Sinara, Kasius can focus on greater things. And has. He will waste time on his knees seeking Faulnok’s approval, no more. Faulnok tells him he plays God over a dead rock and is a coward who stabs his enemies in the back. Kasius adds, “And in the front” and stabs him in the chest.
Faulnok is dead and Kasius says, “A life spent, a life earned” as he and Sinara exchange happy looks. Then Kasius takes his bloody hands on puts it on his cheek, painting half his face a dark blue. He then takes Sinara’s hands in his. He tells her to think how warmly his father will greet him when they avenge his brother’s death and bring him the Destroyer of Worlds. Sinara smiles and Kasius finishes with, “Everything we’ve wanted will soon come t bear.”
On the Trawler, Coulson is doing a pretty good job at being a Pilot. Fitz and Simmons are talking as Simmons helps him put his harness on. Fitz says he is never leaving her side again. Simmons feels the same way which is why she asked him to marry her.
Fitz starts to get angry but checks himself and says (through gritted teeth), “Doesn’t matter.” Simmons says she could use a drink right about now (of Haig?) and Fitz is just happy for some alone time. They start to kiss but there’s rumbling, and the Trawler shakes as it goes dark for a second.
Coulson shouts, “Okay! So not exactly like a flying car!” as he fights for control and Deke yells that they are so stupid as he goes to another seat with a harness. Daisy remarks so much for smooth sailing. The Trawler starts to go down.
Tag Scene
May wakes up. Enoch has been watching her while she slept and says, “Welcome back, Agent May. You hit your head quite hard.” May sits up and gets out of bed asking where they are. Enoch doesn’t answer, and May sees the SHIELD eagle behind him. She answers her own question. “The Zephyr.” She then asks, “How? What is going on?”
Enoch answers that “they grabbed us and anchored us against the gravity storm.” May wants to know, “Who?” and 2 people enter with covered faces. May immediately gets in a fighting stance and an old woman walks in. She’s waited such a long tome to see May again. May looks down and sees the carved robin.
