...not only that Darulio was kind of a douche, but imo his whole pheromone stuff was bordering on Lorelei territory of evil. Sure, he didn't us people for personal gain, made them hurt others, etc, like she did - and I get that his cuture is apparently pretty loose when it comes to sex - but still, he pretty much drugged people and then had sex with them, despite knowing that they (especially in Ed's case) weren't actually into him. Additionally, we might never know the truth of Kelly's cheating a year prior to the show, but at least in this episode it was clear that she had no intention of resuming the relationship - until she was infected with the pheromones. Against her will. Just like Ed. Just like the Doc. Seriously, I think this would have warranted much more than a "I feel a bit weirded out" reaction at the end of the episode. As far as I'm concerned, what Darulio did - or what Lorelei did with Ward back in S1 - doesn't differ much from a date rape drug. Sure, they might have enjoyed it in the moment, but they were not in a sane frame of mind to give consent, which makes it borderline rape imo. I'm kind of annoyed that the episode left me with such a bitter aftertaste in this regard, because otherwise it was absolutely incredible imo. One of my favourites of the season without a doubt! Sooo many hilarious jokes, it's really hard to pick a favourite. I think I'll go with this one, though: "Your statement is confusing. Has the Captain entered Mr. Darulio in some fashion?" "Not yet ."Still, I really would have preferred it, if they had left it on the "crush" level. As soon as it became clear that Ed and Darulio had really gone through the whole nine yards, the joke stopped being funny to me.

What he did was wrong on every level, even though it serves to provide a path toward reconciliation between Ed and Kelly. The poor doctor got the worst end of the whole deal. Too bad they can't erase both her's and blob-man's memories of the whole thing. And I highly doubt that the confrontation between the species is going to ultimately be resolved that easily.

As soon as it became clear that Ed and Darulio had really gone through the whole nine yards, the joke stopped being funny to me. Kind of? He was a major douche. And the episode definitely had some images I could have done without. Major question: did he just enter into the cycle shortly after coming on board? Reason being that in the shuttle bay he shook hands with both Ed and Kelly and they didn't seem affected. It's possible the Lorelei comparison didn't come to me because I was thinking more of the DS9 episode Fascination where Troi's mom was affected by something similar but unaware and half the station was having a love fest. As for the plotline, I found it predictable - when they outlined the role of the pottery I knew both DNAs would be present, even if I wasn't confining it to a common ancestor, and it was obvious that Darulio had done some sort of love spell on Kelly in the lab, though since they'd already shaken hands I thought it could be related to the pottery, and that the love spell would be used to unite the races. And the fact that they only got weirded out tells me it must have completed filming before the sexual harassment accusation festival that is going on in Hollywood started.
