I know nillindeiel went to see Aquaman. I was hoping for a review, but I guess the excitement of seeing Mamoa on the big screen was too much to bare? Anxiously awaiting your input, Yoda. Sorry, sad to say - visiting this board daily has become harder to do lately Saw it back on the 22nd of Dec. It's a very fun ride, deinitely better than BvS and JL. Not to the level of Wonder Woman. There were some of the action sequences that felt a little long/could've been trimmed down a bit. There is also very much a cheesiness factor throughout, but it mostly works for this film. One exception/where I don't think it works is... the kiss with Mera. It happens in the middle of a battle and is this long drawn out slow motion type of thing. If it had been just a quick kiss I would've been okay with it. But with (again) the long drawn out nature of it and explosions in the background, I was rolling my eyes a bit Love the cast. Momoa is definitely Aquaman. He clearly has a blast with the character. All in all, better than I was expecting... would gladly see it in the theater again if I get the chance and I've already pre-ordered the blu-ray.

To be fair, AoS has done that, too

To be fair, AoS has done that, too Even at the danger of derailing this thread, but... I still sometimes have trouble wrapping my head around the fact that this^ is the same guy as this:

So let me preface this by relating this fun fact. Literally the moment I got home from seeing this I turned on the TV and within 3 seconds I was watching Raj dressed as Aquaman riding a sea horse say "Aquaman sucks". IMO he was not far off.
This film is fun and all but it doesn't hold up to the new standards IMO.
Recipe for Aquaman:
Take a below average DC movie. Mix in elements from a better-than-average episode of Power Rangers. Take some of the worst parts of films like Pirates of the Carribean, Star Wars Prequels 1-3, The Hobbit films and some how make them worse before mixing them in. Oh and borrow heavily from 300: Rise of an Empire. Mix it all together and slap it up on the screen with some slo-mo added in to taste. Garnish with a tacked on romantic subplot.
Obviously like everyone else on the internet I'm exaggerating a bit to try and be funny. But yeah, too many cringes for my liking but Mamoa does make it fun to watch in parts.
Ah and I forgot the drum-playing octopus. Seriously. I mean, I'd say "spoiler alert" but how can something that sad be spoiled?
