...since the movie has now been hitting theaters, figured it'd be a good time for a Spoiler thread to get started for those that have seen the movie. SPOILER TAGS ARE NOT REQUIRED IN THIS THREAD, so if you haven't seen the movie yet, read this thread at your own risk!

I saw it last night. I liked it. Not as much as the first one, but it was still pretty good.
I liked how they did the mid and end credits scenes. None of them had connection to other movies really, but I liked how they were interspersed. The only one that really meant anything I think is the Adam Warlock cocoon reveal.

Off course! Adam Warlock and Thanos are sworn enemies in comics but i don't think he will be in Avengers 3 Infinity War, my guess is GoTG Vol.3.

I think I liked it more than the first - though it's close and of course I'm still in the honeymoon phase with this one. Funnier I think for sure. Some of the baby groot stuff was amazing and I'm really impressed with Dave Batista (though that could be because my expectations were super low before the first film and even though he did a great job in that one I still sort of expect him to be meh).
I thought they pulled of the living planet thing in a plausible way but haven't spoken to many casual fans who've seen it yet.
Loved the cameos as well.
Could have used a bit more of a crossover moment but given that this one is essentially a "bonus" film, I'm not complaining at all.

I'm still trying to decide if I like it better than the first one or not. There are some things I did like better, but other things I didn't, so it actually might be a bit of a tie for me.
Though leave it to Guardians to make me cry at the end. First movie did it with Groot's sacrifice. This one did it with Yondu's and with Peter's realization that Yondu *was* Peter's father in everything but blood.
Some things I didn't like? Some of the teenage boy style crude humor particularly at the beginning I could have done without (the penis jokes and what not). And some of the pacing felt a tad disjointed at times.
Loved the interactions between the main cast though, loved getting a bit more backstory and/or character development into some characters (like Yondu, Nebula, Rocket).

Curious to get people's thoughts on the "plot hole" regarding how Ego's expansion pods activating in 2014 wasn't mentioned in other films/shows or why we didn't see Iron Man show up.
Personally I don't really care much and it's entirely possible that the big blobs retracted once Ego was destroyed meaning they may not have existed for very long. I am sure people died but other than the odd nature of the event it's really not that different than an earthquake or some other disaster. I would assume SHIELD would have looked into it in some way but I don't think it's something that suddenly changes the course of the MCU on Earth.
Thoughts?

Well, let's see, this is was set just a couple months after the first movie, right? So the first movie took place roughly August-ish of 2014, which puts this October-November (or so) of 2014?
So SHIELD (which would have still been underground after the events of Winter Soldier) was dealing with Coulson being all 'carvey' and what not with the side-effects of the GH serum and the various problems related to that. Avengers are probably working on the taking out the various HYDRA bases at this point... so they could have been in the middle of one of their raids - on a completely different area of Earth - when the pod in Missouri was doing it's thing. As you indicate, we also don't know what happened to the goo once Ego was destroyed. I mean, I would think it's basically just bio-matter (essentially), so it could have just retracted or even just disintegrated once Ego was actually destroyed (when there was no more 'light' to fuel the goo)... and not too long after, the Avengers would then be dealing with the events of Age of Ultron.
That is one of the tricky things, though, with doing a movie that falls outside of the 'it takes place when it comes out'. You either have to try and fit in with the other content that came before, or else you're going to possibly be retconning stuff.
Another possible plot hole (or plot divot... it's not a huge problem) is Stan Lee's cameo in this film. You hear him mention as he's relating all the things he's been, that he was a FedEx driver. Now granted, he doesn't specifically state that he delivered a package to Tony "Stank" (and who knows, maybe he was a FedEx driver more than once).... but Civil War where do indeed see him as a FedEx driver wouldn't happen for another year and a half in world.

Thanks Nillindeiel - as always.
With Stan, maybe that little scene was somehow outside space-time given that it was during the "jumps"? I mean, it stands to reason if they're leaping through space in some way (faster than light speed obviously) that time could get messed up in some way as well.
Glad we're not on the other site any more where 1000s of people would be claiming it ruined the movie for them etc.

I just came home from watching it, but I'm with nillindeiel on disliking a lot of the humour, especially in the first half. For me it was so over the top, in fact, that it pretty much canceled out the awesome parts (backstory, character development, better villain) and leaves me with no doubt that the first movie remains my favourite. I had actually completely missed the part about the movie being set in 2014 (1980 + 34 years, yeah, makes sense), so I had already been wondering if AoS was going to mention the huge expending blob thing in the next episode. Guess that answers that.

I like this movie, but I hate how they wasted Drax. He was comic relief while everyone else had better action scenes and storylines. I wanted to see bad@ss Drax, not comedian Drax!
Yondu went out like a champ. I rarely cry during a scene, but Yondu's funeral had me in tears. It was amazingly executed.

Okay, some jokes were funny, but mostly I found them over the top, childish and just downright rude. Really made me wonder why everyone on the team was complaining about Rocket when Drax was being ten times as obnoxious. They also seemed to have dropped the whole 'way too literal' thing from the first movie. Sure, it's good to not rely on the same kind of humour all the time, but if that was really such a signature quality of Drax' species, it seemed pretty unrealistic that he had moved past that within only a few months. The writers clearly opted for unfiltered directness instead, but as I said, that was mainly 'rude and not funny' territory for me.

Sorry to be off topic, but what is the other site that I see people mentioning on here (usually in a negative way)? Are you referring to the old IMDB boards?

It's a bit silly, I guess, but some people are still somewhat sour that imdb shut down the forums just like that. Personally, I had 12 years under my belt there, and while I like the community here much more, I still miss the wide variety of topics (including actors, etc.) where lively discussions were being held, and which often proved to be a far better source for information than any official statements.

Yeah, there were a lot of trolls and such, but it was a good way to talk about tons of different movies and shows.

Saw it. Loved it. Replies to multiple threads follows: haxemon: I thought they did a good job, considering...... I'm not a comic-phile but I was familiar with Ego (basically due to research) prior to watching. Seeing as they were using him/it as a paternal source for Peter it worked well for the movie and keeping him mostly in human form worked really well for the casual fan. I liked how you could see the face of Ego in the planet as Rocket and Yondu came in for their approach. I didn't like that they called him a Celestial, though. I know more about the Celestials than I did Ego and they play a big part throughout the Marvel Universe and were already shown in GotG 1 in their more familiar form....... Not a retcon I particularly cared for. nillindeiel: No tears hear, but the family storylines (don't forget nebula and Gamora) were touching. Don't care for the teen-boy humor either but I kind of understand why they use it - since Peter is still basically a teen maturity wise. I hope they allow him to mature sometime..... Cast interactions are what really make this particular franchise. I could watch two hours of them just cruising around the galaxy arguing with each other (yet growing closer all the while) with no big bad to deal with. That would entertain the hell out of me. haxemon: I try not to get too wrapped up in all that; but, you're right, that's something that would have drawn attention. Oh well...... nillindeiel and haxemon: To me, if they'd have saved the "Fedex" line for the credit scene, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Out of context in the credits would have seemed like a different meeting. Oh well at least we know for sure Stan's role. ayanami: Agree. His literal ignorance is what made him funny in the first one. Now my personal thoughts: The Sovereign were pretty cool. The visuals were awesome. I wonder if Her Highness was able to somehow snag some of Peter's DNA? Celestial DNA would make a great Adam Warlock. I can't wait to see how the MCU does Adam Warlock. Gunn must really have a thing for Howard the Duck............. Was really impressed with Rocket's arc in this movie. They did a great job with him. Definitely want him on your side in a fracas. And, wow, he can really kick ass. I am Groot. Need I say more? Anybody else wondering if we're going to see Goth Groot next? Anybody see the IW footage from D23/SDCC? Just wondering what they had for a ship in that one? I've only seen a really low resolution, poorly angled leaked footage and I can't tell what their ship looks like...... Was kind of surprised that Nebula was emotionally hurt by Gamora's indifference. I thought that was a great scene (yeah, it's been done many times before but it worke great here). When Nebula said "I just wanted a sister" actually hit me harder than Yondu's parting scenes. I wonder if we'll see a Ravagers movie in Phase IV or if they'll just appear in another GotG movie? All in all, a good sequel and even as a stand-alone movie. When I get the physical media I'll probably watch it over and over. More than I can say for IM3.
