Okay, if you're still here, I've got to assume you've seen the movie or just truly don't care, so I'll just go ahead and spoil away now.
First of all, let me start off by paraphrasing one of the directors/writers or whatever, who recently said, in regards to Marvel's secrecy concerning the movie, that only a handful of people would know its true plot. Uh-huh, okay. Now, for demonstration purposes, I'll use my own personal Time Stone to turn back time a few hours to before I've seen Infinity War. .....
Okay, done! Alright, going strictly by what I've gathered about the Infinity Stone story arc from the comics, and what Marvel's promotional material as well as their movie schedule (IW and Avengers 4 essentially being a two-parter) tell me, my prediction for the movie plot is as follows: Thanos gets the Tesseract, a.k.a. the Space Stone from Loki, after attacking the ship as we've seen at the end of Ragnarok. Then he attacks Earth, looking for the Infinity Stones there, the Time Stone, kept by Doctor Strange and the Mind Stone that gives life to The Vision. He also needs the Power Stone that's on Xandar, as well as the Reality Stone that is with the Collector on Knowhere, so he'll go there, too, or send his people. Or maybe he got one or two of those already before the start of the movie, to save time and production money. Since the Soul Stone has been kept a mystery so far, and is thus one of the only "new" things we know the movie will deal with, I assume we will see some efforts to actually find it, and it won't be one Thanos has already, though I could be wrong here. Either way, going by the plot of the comics, the laws of drama, and the fact that Avengers 4 next year is basically the second part of IW, I think we can be a 100% certain that this movie will end with Thanos getting all six stones and actually killing half of all life on Earth (the galaxy?), including many of the Avengers and friends.
*turns time back to normal using the Time Stone and remembers the actual movie plot*
Nailed it.
Okay, so, yeah, the movie was a lot of fun and all, but as someone for whom the characters are usually the most important thing in a movie, this one doesn't even make my Top 3 in the MCU! Quality over quantity! There were some actually cool moments, like everything with Gamorra and Nebula, Tony and Peter, Wanda and Vision, and everything with Thor (and Loki!!), but most of the characters were just there to deliver a few punches. I know it's impossible to do everyone justice over the span of one movie, that's what the solo adventures are for, but that's what makes those my favourites. The Avengers (2012) was about the limit, I'd say, of the number of characters you can put into a team-up movie and still give everyone plenty to do. Everything else just skews the focus!
A few random impressions:
- Gamorra, how the hell can you be so incredibly dense?!!? I don't think there was anyone in my entire theater, who didn't immediately get it, when Thanos found out that he had to sacrifice what he loves most to get the Soul Stone! Seriously, girl!
- Talking about that scene: Holy character return!!!!! Just last week, when I watched Captain America, I thought about how we would probably never ever see Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull in the MCU again! The only part of the movie that actually surprised me.
- Peter Quill, thanks for nothing, moron!!
- Peter Parker, dying at a third the speed of everyone else, just to make it extra painful for Tony. Really, people?
- There's no way that Steven just handed over the Time Stone to Thanos to save Tony's life. After all, he saw one possibility where the team won; I just hope this was it!
- I bet Paul Bethany has been begging the producers for years to just give him one scene, just one, where he wouldn't have to go through hours of costume and make-up first.
- Hint to Marvel: Only idiots are going to believe those deaths will stick if you kill off all the young blood in the cast. Jup, I bet no-one is interested in making another Spider-Man movie anymore. Or another Guardians, or Black Panther... Nice try, though!
- Not gonna lie, I definitely had tears in my eyes about five minutes in. If this was it, Loki, I'm gonna miss you sooooo much! I hope it's not, though. Oh, and, Kevin Feige is a liar! Not that I ever believed him, but still!!! shieldinexile.freeforums.net/post/11076/thread
- The scene with Wanda killing Vision to destroy the Mind Stone, only for Thanos to turn back time and complete his set anyway, that was INCREDIBLE!!! Perfect drama, perfect execution! And the heartbreak of having all those people die afterwards. OMG! (As I said, they're not gonna stick, but that doesn't make it any less awful in the moment!) "Steve..."
Time for someone to bring Captain Marvel into play!
