Rather than further hijack ayanami's thread about being worried about May (which I am, also), I figured this topic needed its own thread. Especially after watching 5x10. I was so hoping for more out of the episode. The promo was a dirty trick as far as I am concerned. Very little plot was devoted to the teaser. Instead, we got more of the same.
I'll start by quoting some of my own answer to her question, and add from there.

Since you asked so nicely, ... and first off, I never said I 'hated' the current plot. Actually I don't. What follows is my honest opinion about what is going on, and I am sure there will be lots of disagreement...Hey, its my opinion!
It really isn't the plot itself that is bothering me. There are several things about this season that I am not pleased with.
I feel the writing of s5 has been a good bit of 'filler' or 'stretch-out-the story'.
Breaking this down in more detail, lets look at the new characters:
Enoch. Undoubtedly, the winner and surprise of the season. The best of the writing has gone to his character.
Virgil. The guy with a diary who knew what was up. Interesting character that got killed off inside of one episode.
Grill. What was the point of him? A big chunk of time spent on the metrics, and sending Mack on a rough-em-up assignment, and zapping the team just for kicks. Then he gets killed off too.
Deke. Poorly acted comic relief, who has not really served much of a purpose at all. Makes me miss Hunter all that much more. Maybe his parents will come into play, but that possibility seems to be fading away at this point. All that work-up, just for a reveal that there were people on the surface? Filler and more filler.
A large part of an episode devoted to Jemma helping the young girl who was appointed to go through terrigenesis.
Unless more is to be revealed, so far that just served to introduce the fact that Kasius was 'breeding' inhumans for a gladiator garage sale.
Tess. What to say about her? A lot of time spent, just to kill her off, and bring her back to life for no real valid reason other than to lead to Yoyo finding the loop version of herself.
All the bidders at the auction. Two entire episodes spent on this sideline story plot.
Kasius's brother. Again, what is the point. He gets brought into the story, then killed off. All just to emphasize the family aspect and daddy's disappointment in Kasius? Why the hell is Kasius willing to die to prove he has family honor also? Dumb plot.
Sinara. IMO the most interesting and enigmatic of all the newbies. I think most of us were hoping she would be the one to overthrow Kasius. Nope, she gets killed off too, a real missed opportunity for a potentially great character.
Kasius. I just don't get it at all. I am so sick of listening to his over-long melodramatic speeches. I will be curious if someone monitors how much screen time he has gotten this season. I swear, the actor must have been providing sexual favors to the producers, to have that drag on for so long. Totally glad to see him go. Shoulda happened 5 episodes ago.
Flint. Again, a character with major focus for at least 3 episodes, only to be set up to be the one to put the monolith back together. And irritating on top of that. He gets powers for a day, and starts getting all bossy about his abilities. Now suddenly Mack and Yoyo are ready to adopt him? Lame.
Voss. Yet another throw-away character that served not a whole lot of purpose. Yes he along with Deke's parents was the tie-in to Robin, I know. Its just all drug out too much.
And now to the regulars.
Jemma spent HOW many episodes as a gold plated zombie? One of the best actors on the show, forced to pan-face her part forever, it seems.
Fitz (undoubtedly due to availability) has had little screen time as well. Great actor as well, that we have seen too little of this season.
Coulson and May both seem to be 'off' somehow, not seeming anything like themselves, no matter what mode they are in. Let's hope Ming's real world injury heals completely and soon. Her character has had some really strange, hard to read expressions this season, nonetheless. And Coulson..well, caseyrook AKA Mechelle has covered his actions pretty thoroughly already, so I won't expound on that.
Mack and Yoyo haven't done much to impress either. Other than his grumpiness seems to be wearing off on her.
Daisy is the only one of the team that seems to keep developing, character-wise. I have really enjoyed watching both the character and the actress this season. Its been the highlight so far.
In short, this could have been a fairly interesting story, if it had been done more cohesively, in 4 or maybe 5 episodes, without all the red herrings and filler. I still hold out some hope that at least some of it will tie in and make better sense later on.
The sets have been way, way sub-par, looking a lot like the cheap sets of Inhumans. I am really ready for an outdoor, sunlight, real world scene. It is overdue.
Seems that the CGI of space, and a lot of 'hang-wire' editing, has been the bulk of what they have budgeted so far. (you know, the weightless fight scenes and such).
Speaking of fights, I have noticed a considerable downturn in their quality of directing, shooting and editing as well. Its slipping. Not all bad, mind you, there are a couple of great ones, but a lot is not up to the standards they have set. And a couple that are downright comical. Look at Voss trying to swing at Daisy. Looks like a 3rd grade schoolgirl trying to fight.
Look forward to everyone's rebuttals and support of my thoughts.
Rant over for now
